What do you mean by clean boost?
« on: January 03, 2010, 11:32:53 AM »
Hi guys,

What does it mean doing a clean boost? What does boost mean in the guitar pedal sense?

I've seen this lots of times with OD pedals in relation to an amp.

What does it really mean?

Clean boost.. just pure volume boost; the pedal doesn't add any additional dirt/gain (via the gain knob). Although it's a clean volume boost, it will let the tubes in the amp saturate a lot earlier. Hence you can get mild amp overdrive, if that's what you're after.

I think, it's the sound you need in doing solos... para lumutang ang tunog mo,
minsan kasi pag matapang masyado ang drive mo is may tendency na nagiging parehas na ng frequency sa cymbals kaya hindi detailed ang tunog ng solo...

IMO...

tama ba mga master?
By trying to look unique, everyone ends up looking the same.
-goes with the "sound" too

Yes man! Misunderstood words can really hinder us from learning, understanding, and applying.

Sana nga may glossary tayo nitong mga nito.

Like a Gear Glossary. Kasama na din yung mga descriptions ng "warm", or whatever else description of different tones.

To those who replied, thanks! :)

Decibel boost without degrading headroom? Unless you want it to.

ano po ba meaning ng tonesuck?

from the word itself.. tone suck..
some very noticeable treble loss or tone loss.. how? try plugging your guitar straight to the amp.. then try plugging your guitar to the pedal then to the amp.. you may notice some tone loss on poorly buffered pedals..

then again, cables can also be part of that tonesuck..

a true bypass looper can be very handy.. or get true bypassed pedals.. most buffered vintage pedals are inherent tone sucky pedals..

The word itself explains it all. Your tone sucks. Well, not exactly. The signal of your effects processors attenuates thus giving you a lesser quality of your tone. (Usually nangyayari toh kapag marami kang effects na nakakabit or sa low quality na cables na gamit mo.) Try mo ikabit yung guitar mo direstso sa amp. Then icompare mo kapag mei effects ka nakakabit and then nakaoff lang. (preferably buffer bypass, not true bypass) Notice that your tone is better kapag diretso sa amp ang saksak kaysa kapag mei effects na nakakabit.

Sana tama explanation ko. Correct me if I'm wrong. :-)

Read my sig... example for the vintage pedal would be an Arion SCH-1 chorus. players notice "tone suck" when the pedal is off, so they did a true bypass mod...

Kahit true bypass lahat ng effects mo, tonesuck will still occur right? So you need atleast 1 pedal na hindi true bypass. Buffer bypass right?

example?

Usually mga boutique pedals true bypass. Tama diba? :-D

example?

for the looper.. just contact sir mahavishnu..

this is a loop pedal..

an example of a vintage pedal is the vintage MXR Dynacomp where there are no LEDS and is operated by battery.. it's a good compressor but sucks tone hard..

Kahit true bypass lahat ng effects mo, tonesuck will still occur right? So you need atleast 1 pedal na hindi true bypass. Buffer bypass right?

kahit anong gawin mo, may tonesuck.. what we're aiming to do is keep it to minimum.. as in minimum.. you need at least one buffered pedal kung exagge na TBP lahat ng pedals mo.. like 7-15 pedals na all true bypass..
pero kung tipong 5 pedals lang.. okay lang siguro kahit wag ka na maglagay ng buffered..  :-)

yes.. for the price, the better do it good.. pero look at Barber pedals.. they are true bypassed pedals pero may inooffer silang upgrade.. a high quality buffered circuit.. galing..  :-)
