thanks for sharing about 'damping factor' on power amplifiers. i got mine to share with an easy to read short article on this topic:
+1. Thanks Sir Jef for this one. I have been a QSC fanatic since the days of the MX series. I now use the RMX series and I still salute QSC's performance especially for the highs and mids. I'm using the RMX4050 for the lows.
Despite of my loyalty to QSC, I still agree that Crown amps are known to deliver better bass response since of its high damping factor. As a matter of fact, we compared my RMX4050 with the Crown MA2402 (only). My RMX4050 is rated at 800 watts at 8 ohms stereo with a damping factor of >250, while the Crown MA2402 is rated at 520 watts at 8 ohms stereo with a >1000 damping factor. Yung natest namin, with the same set of subs, mas malakas bumayo yung sa Crown MA2402
. "Chest thumping" bass as the old saying goes, pag Crown ang ginamit especially the MA series. Very stable pa ang Crown amps when you do parallel connections. In paper, 4ohms ang results when you do parallel connection on two 8ohms speaker. But speakers especially the 18 inch woofers do go really low on their impedance lalo na sa lower frequencies (based on what I read din sa ibang articles).
Lastly, I really agree with the article above that HIGH DAMPING FACTOR EQUALS TIGHT BASS.
