Choosing a polarizing filter..
« on: May 01, 2010, 09:49:07 AM »
I'm thinking about getting a polarizing filter - I think I'll be able to make good use of it for the remaining weeks of summer. AND I have this growing fondness for landscapes.
I'm using a Nikon D3000 with the 18-55mm kit lens. I've been looking around for a polarizing filter, but I can't seem to find one that comes in 55mm.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.  :-)

Look for a step up ring (55 to 77). Get the Hoya Polarizer. If you're into  landscapes, get a square filter holder, 55mm filter adapter and a drop in polarizer.

Hmm, okay. Between a circular & square ones.. which would be more practical in the long run? I DO have plans of getting other lenses in the future.  :-)

I found step-up rings that could fit my 18-55.. but only 55-58 and 55-62.  :| As for the 55mm filter adapter, I have had no luck finding those.

I usually put CPLR on my default walkabout lens which was the 18-70mm.
Its too expensive to put one on every lens.

mahirap talaga hanapan ng filter ung 55mm bro. Ung screw-in na CPL nalang kunin mo.

Bro, the 18-55mm lens has a 52mm mount AFAIK. Hoya and B+W are good brands. Widely available. :)

bro may nakita ako sa henrys kagabi 55mm nasa 1600 ata un Phottix sya but i prefer if landcape photo ang trip mo mag 72mm kna sa wide lens mo ilagay. its kinda expensive to put polarizer to every lens though. kaya i advice you to think of a lens na gagamitin in the long run. medyo off ba sagot ko? hehe. kasi i bought a close up filters and i kinda regressed it nung nagamit ko na.

any brand of polarizer would pretty much do the same thing - it lets you control reflections from light source into your subject. i use a Moose Peterson polarizer though for the warming effect. look it up.
