CS3 can't open D3000 .nef files

Right now, shooting in RAW is becoming a bit of a hassle for me. My CS3 can't open .nef files because "it's not the right type of file". I've already updated to the latest version of Camera Raw, but to no avail. So I have to resort to using DNG converter, which converts .nef files to .dng format - which isn't a very fast process.  Only then can I see/open my shots in CS3.

AFAIK, "RAW" file format includes .nef, .dng, and a lot more. Hehe.

Okay, I think I solved my problem. There's no version of Camera Raw for CS3 that'll support the D3000's .nef files. Since CS4 was "the" version when the D3000 came around, kelangan ko ng CS4 (or higher) para ma-open without hassle ang .nef files ko.

Having said that, now I need to get my hands on a copy of CS4.

Can you still PP the photos in jpeg on CS3?

You can still do a lot with jpeg files in photoshop.

Yes, in .jpeg format, there's no problem on CS3. Like I said earlier, what I do is convert to .dng at first.. post-process.. then save as .jpeg.

cs3 is a bit outdated already. i guess upgrading to cs5 will solve all your problems

You can just updated ADOBE CAMERA RAW(ACR). This is the software that reads Nikon raw(.nef) files in PS. No need to upgrad PS. Hope it helps.
