bro eto lang,

with thickness of a head,

it becomes more fat sounding, and more warm. pag thin ang head mo, mas ma-overtone,

sa ganito, ang ambassador, mejo manipis. tapos coated. kaya maraming overtone tapos matindi crack.
ung pinstripe naman, makapal. kaya magiging muffled yung tambol. maganda to for toms. pero for snare, di gano for me.

just would like to share some ideas...

If your room is small...i don't think ambassadors would fit your kit...masyado siya nag proproject...pag maliit ang space yung sonic vibrations dun, hindi mas nakakagalaw kaya it tend to make your sound suck...haha! pero don't let this fool you, iba ang tunog ng kit or ng cymbals sa driver's seat at sa watcher's side.To satisfy your focused sound, pwede ka mag 2 ply heads(eg.pinstirpes, protone or any 2-ply head that has a built in O-ring(muffler), pero, wag mo masyado muffle...may tendency mag tunog karton yan! hahaha . kaya some drummers adjust their reso heads(bottom head) to control the overtones...remember that tighter reso tension provides more warmth...vice versa.

But, when you're out there gigging, ambassadors ang pinaka or isa sa pinaka ginagagamit siguro because of its warmth, volume, sensitivity and projection.

on the other hand, if you want a 2 ply head, it is more durable, but usually, it lessens the head's warmth(overtones), but enables your kit or snare to sound more focused(yung buo ang tunog).

Now, dotted heads like CS dot, Coated CS dot, etc are heads that produce a focused sound like a 2 ply head when hit at center but has the warmth and sensitivity of a single ply.  In short parang combination. and hirap lang dito...bihira ka makakakita sa mga music shops.

Preference talaga yan nagkakatalo sir. Minsan you would prefer a single ply or minsan naman you would go for 2 ply heads. What matters most is you know the sound you're looking for.  :-) It's ok to ask other drummer's opinion, malaki help yun, pero, ikaw pa rin yan... sa umpisa, mahirap mahanap ung tunog mo, pero as you continue drumming...parang journey lang yan...madami ka madidiscover... hope this helps bro.

gamit ko po ngayon ay emperor X,

nilagyan ko parin siya ng piece of paper kasi parang may tunog ewan, ayos lang po ba yun or it depends nalang sa pagtotono ko?

medyo OT lang... ano yung fat, wet, pop, and warm na sound ng snare?and kun meron pang ibang terms, please share naman.
so the noobies in tuning (like me) would know what the sound of our snares are, and so we would have a reference bago kame mag experiment sa pag tono,,

at what do you mean by batter head lang ang set ng drums mo? you mean wala kang drum head for the resonance side(yung head sa ilalim)?

it also happened to my toms, yung ringy sound, so i also do put o- rings to lessen the overtone
im thingking of buying pinstripes kasi sabi this heads have lesser overtone as their characteristic.

hope it helped!

REMO O-rings are available @ JB stores and cost around 400php. The set includes standard sized mufflers for toms(12",13", and 16") and another 14" muffler for the snare drum. Im not sure if they also have it in fusion sizes.

@mambo
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think there are certain Lazer kits designed without tension lugs at the bottom part of the shell, a hoop, and a resonant head. Maybe that's the type of kit carlo has.

Anyway, its kinda delayed but I just want to share my acquisition a few months back due to the term I learned from philmusic, GAS.....

Thanks and keep drumming!

As far as I can recall, I used to see old kits like that when I was still young, no resonant heads. Im not sure if they just removed it with the lugs and the other stuff that hold the head in place but if there are other forummers who actually know more details about drum kits made without resonant heads, please enlighten us.

I got clear Pinstripes as batter heads for all of my toms including my kick drum and clear Ambassadors as resonant heads for the toms as well. I also had the snare head changed to a coated Ambassador and the snare side head changed to an Ambassador snare side head.

If you're planning to get new set of drum heads, JB is on sale right now. Remo drum heads with 25% off and Remo Encore drum heads @ 30% off. Im not sure on how many percent off with Evans drum heads but it's also on sale.

@ thunder god,
just want to ask what kind of sound your toms produce with that
pinstripe-ambassador combination? im guessing that the sound plays between a tom with both ambassadors and toms with both pinstripe. hehe

will your combination sound good in rock to heavy rock music? thanks

btw. who sells remo drum heads here at philmusic? i tried looking here at this thread sad that i didnt found it, maybe i missed it.

thanks! happy drumming!
