Not to spoil your fun basswood lovers but we cant generalize on this... Basswood is a flat sounding tonewood. Alder on the other has more pronounced mids... Pero d lang naman kc bodywood ang nag dedefine ng tone ng isang guitar there are other factors to consider like Neckwood, Hardware and Pickups. Lalo na yung Bridge ang laking factor din nito... Kaya as Ive said chempo chempo talaga...
Ako I've had quite a few strats over the years from every price range and have found that kahit ano pang kahoy ang ginamit mapa Alder, Ash, Poplar or Basswood hindi parin garantisadong tutunog ng maganda may pangit parin at maganda...
Ako preferred ko Alder and light Ash kc ito talaga ang original tonewoods para sa strat.
Alder has more pronounced mids isang reason kung bakit halos lahat ng Idols natin na stratmen ito ang gamit.
Mike Landau - Tyler/Suhr/Fender - Alder body
Scott Henderson - Suhr - Alder Body
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Fender - Alder Body
Eric Johnson - Fender - Alder Body
Jimi Hendrix - Fender - Alder Body
i'm not a basswood lover bro but i don't hate it either
. I'm just pointing out what's good for basswood(
the flat sounding tonewood as you have described it). And wala namang nag generalize men
Alam naman nating lahat that it's just part of the tonal equation. Ang question lang kung maganda ang quality nung wood na ginamit. Some people actually want basswood over others even if they have other tonewoods at their disposal. Go figure.
John Suhr even mentioned that for him Basswood with a maple top is probably the Holy Grail of tone.
But alder is great for strats. medyo magaan sya compared to northern ash. Sarap nga nyan for punchy upper mids. But for complex overtones, i'd go for Hard Ash. Ok din ang mahogany for strat, i had one before and it sounds meaty without needing overwound pickups.
