Studio Headphone monitor questions
« on: July 07, 2010, 07:57:38 PM »
Is this bang for the buck? sulit ba ito mga master? It cost only $29.99 = P 1,499.95!

I started my "personal home recording studio" (Laptop, External soundcard, Midi Controller, Guitars, DAW & VST's), as of now low budget kaya I'm looking for some 'decent' studio headphone monitor muna. Ok ba ito mga masters? Sa mga nakatry, flat sounding ba ito? Oh, by the way. Im a guitarist, being interested sa recording lately...

I use the Shure SRH440. Try checking out the Samson SR850, I've been wanting to purchase a couple of those for the longest time. To bad, palagi akong nauunahan ng GAS dito sa philmusic. I think it retails for 1,600 here(Forgot the name of the store, pero audiophile may hawak) SM North, annex building.

i've searched and found nothing but positive reviews on this item online. does anyone here at philmusic have a first-hand experience? any reviews? :-D

para saken... hindi dapat napakaganda ng tunog ng studio monitors IF used for recording phase. siguro i would want to use an isolation one na hindi mag leak ng sound sa microphone, pwede rin good earphones tapos may isolating earmuffs ka [gunstore or hardware]. i got mine from an uncle na palagi sa engine room ng bapor.

for mastering, yun ang mag require ng magandang tunog... try mo yung philips na HP2700 [P1500]ive heard good reviews from it or a HP890[~P2500]. theyre not so good with recording kase theyre open circumaural headphones and would leak sound out.

naisipan ko dati yung Audio Technica AT200 [P1400] pero because of the bad reviews na honky daw yung mids di ko binili. siguro maganda yan for a cheap isolating headphone...

me too! +1

Palaging out of stock yung sennheisers. I was to suppose to purchase the senns not the shures but i couldn't find stocks for that model.
I believe headphones are for personal tastes, just like studio monitors its not about the best sounding headphones on the market, it's suppose to be the best sounding headphones for your personal use, style and taste. IMO.

kaya nga i would like to stick with models na within the price range ng behringer headphones nya... IMO, its quite frustrating na ganito lang kaya mo and people around are raving about high end senns... ako ive used a philips HP6xx [Php650] for a long time for use with recording and replaced it only nung nag crack ang band. pahirapan lang ng konti sa pag master...

IMO, good headphones need not be of "dugs dugs" quality dapat siguro flat and clear...

Had this before. They're very good.

On the Sennheiser topic, I am now demoing the Sennheiser EH 350.  It sounds good.  It produces a realistic low end than our Audio Technica M40fs. The AT M50 sounds better than the M40.

The HD280 is relatively affordable at $99. I even got mine for $79 when I was perusing through a computer catalog of all things (tigerdirect ata). Anyway, good as it was, I did not mix with the senns but I relied on them when I was cleaning up some audio. Their isolation allowed me to really concentrate on frequencies and other audio artifacts.

Here's the thing... we can say this brand is great or whatever, it's still up to the TS' choice on what's affordable. I started out with a Sony MDR-V600 'monitor' headphones which was great because it folded and I moved around a lot then so portability was very important. Problem with those cans were that they were supra-aural and having them on for 2 or 3 hrs non-stop was literally painful for my earlobes. That's why I chose to go circumaural since then.

I've used the budget AKG K66 before and it was ok but not great in the isolation department. Bleed is a common problem with loose fitting cans as well as open backs, that's why I recommended the HD280 if bleed control is an important consideration when choosing a headphone. Another contender are the Sony 7509's, but I can't find these at any Sony store. Same with the senns... ask for the HD280 and watch the salesguy give you a blank stare.

I presently use the AKG K240 Studio which at $99 won't break the bank, but is very good aurally, for me at least. I love the AKGs because they are very durable and sound great. I would like to try the AT ATH M40fs or M50, but Marvin Q recently let me on to his Samsons, which look very similar to my K240s, sound great, and at less than 2k, should be a steal as far as headphones go.

What's the model number of your Samson headphones? :)

Not mine, but Marvin's. Since it looks similar to the K240, I believe it's either the RH100 or RH600. Hopefully someone from audiophile can give us a price on these as their site does not show these headphones.

@KitC

ay ayun... mura naman pala yung senns.

at $79-99 that should translate to about 5k dito. parang ako na ang tinamaan ng GAS ah, san yan makakabili dito sir? parang interesado na ako...

ako i dont go to appliance centers kase most people there are, well... nevermind.
i usually hit voodoo shops where prices are cheap and people there actually "memorize" brand/model numbers. if you have a strong sense for orig equipment this is the shure fire way to go.

ok, na GAS na ako.
