Toyota Wigo
« Reply #1226 on: June 30, 2014, 11:50:52 PM »
Hello folks!

I am currently experiencing a huge headache due to expenses regarding the maintenance of my 94 Lancer GLXi, so I am now looking forward to selling it soon.

I am eyeing the Toyota Wigo as my next vehicle, bnew. Mostly I'll use it for city driving, occasional out of towns and outings. my criteria is cheap maintenance and fuel economy.

to those who already own the vehicle here, are there any problems with it in daily driving? how does it do in uphill driving regardless of light and heavy loads? thanks! :)

i don't own a wigo, but i hear it's good. i'm not sure about uphill climbing with load but i figure that with 4 fully
grown adults it shouldn't be much of a problem.

I'd say get a real sedan nalang sir. mejo questionable talaga ang safety and durability ng small cars para sakin. para di ka rin talo agad sa baha. :)

this pretty much sums what I want in a new car as well...

uy saw the prices not bad..(halos kasing halaga lang ng isang matinding (Collectors CHoice Les Paul). Im also in the same predicament...everytime we go home for vacation we spend to keep our old car to be road worthy..thinking of selling it off and just getting a new more reliable..and affordable vehicle..

I read a review somewhere that the Wigo fails in city driving because the fuel economy drops to a level comparable to 1.5L MT engines. I believe the reason stated was that the engine isn't VVTI, which means the combustion isn't at its best performance.
The Wigo is still the best kei kar around. However, if you're getting the top of the line Wigo, you might as well get a Mitsubishi Mirage. The looks aren't as good, but for the same size and performance, you get more features.

+1 on this statement. the Mitsubishi Mirage still wins it.

Also, if you're not too concerned about looks, and utility is the prime concern, or if you're actually planning to buy the lowest model of the Wigo, take a look at the new Suzuki Altos. From what I gather from Alto owners I know the mileage is superb, and it takes a good beating.
It's basically like this: The Alto is the better low end Wigo with a lower price tag, and the Mirage is the better high end Wigo with a tad higher price tag (but you get push button enginge start, ha!). Pag midrange kasi, for any of the three cars mentioned, hindi talaga sya bang for buck eh.

dalawang klase 'yung Mitsubishi Mirage, 'yung isa GL parang sedan. mukhang mas ok 'yun.

true. for a small car with a dead axle in the back, it's pretty nimble and fast as well. not vtec fast but it is
fast for something like it.

thanks for the inputs, guys!

yes, I am also eyeing the Mitsubishi Mirage.

will I have difficulty adjusting to it, coming from a person who is used to driving a slightly more powerful Lancer GLXi? isa ko ring problems is uphill driving, especially when it comes to traffic jams in elevated roads and bridges. :)

I have tried driving the Alto, 0.8L. If your lancer is MT, there will be a fair amount of adjustment. Not bad, and responsive enough to weave through asshats in traffic. And kung city driving naman din, malamang di mo na mararamdaman yung loss of acceleration pagdating sa 55-80kph.
No worries though, kayang kaya nyan ang NLEX!

i don't think you'll have a problem with it bro.

being a smaller engine though, baka magkaron ka lang ng slight changes with regard to the slightly less power that the engine has. manual ba kukunin mo?

kasi kung manual, you'll soon get used to it. kung automatic then there is nothing to worry about.   :-D

of course bro pero most modern cars can cruise economically at 80 kph at 5th gear (kung manual) kaya di din maging problema yan.

displina talaga dapat before anything else bro.

pero kasi din if you adhere to the rules, e kahit maipit ka, wala din sana mishaps in the first place  :)

Si James Deakin tinest yung 1.0L na Wigo, 6-10kpl for city driving, tapos shoot up 15-18kpl for highway. Modern VVT sedans don't have that huge a variance.
So basically, much higher speeds are actually better for your small car.

panong walang ECU ang wigo? mechanical injection ba gamit niya? not familiar with the engine on it.

i read james deakin's review. god 6km/l in city driving. my old school ride beats it hands down, a/c on with just
a 4-speed transmission. sa highway 18 km/l ... i was expecting upwards of 25++ km/l because a Mirage can easily do 21/23 km/l
city driving with a/c.

i'm thinking now that the Wigo is more of an entry level car than something that really saves you gas.  :?

sorry mali iniisip ko, non VVT-i. so there, your Wigo engine is as economical as your 1991 or older car  :|

per Top Gear Philippines, kinausap daw nila LTO, the ban is only applicable for the new style of number plates.

as for lowering, bakit may multa? eh kung gusto ko ibaba yung center of gravity ng kotse ko for performance reasons?
