Example naka 40kph ka tapos nasa 3rd gear.. i shift mo lang ng 2nd gear kahit mabilis pa takbo mo? then from 2nd shift mo to 1st gear kahit mga 30kph pa takbo mo? hindi ba uuga yun pag mabilis tapos nag 1st gear ka? tama ba intindi ko sa engine break?

hmmm i'm not aware kung paano engine braking sa manual hehe
pero on another note, you might want to hold off yung trip mo mismo if monday ka pupunta

weather doesn't look good ngayon, paparating na si lando dun mamayang gabi.

wag naman first gear masisira makina mo
but the idea of an engine brake isn't to slow down the car, it's to maintain a certain speed that wouldn't require you to keep the brakes engaged.

so kunwari downhill nasa 50kph ako, pero gusto ko mag cruise ng mga 30, gagawin ko preno hanggang mag 30 kph or less, then downshift to 2nd gear. mapapnsin mo bibigat yung andar mo kasi wala kang input sa accelerator at brake, puro inertia lang, tapos yung andar mo magiging "this is as fast as this car would go in this gear". sa city ng ermat ko pag naka manual mode sya at nasa 3rd gear (out of 7) mga 40kph yung pinakamabilis nya. pag 2nd gear mga 30 lang. syempre alalay lang sa preno  :)

Ako in case of down hill, i apply my brakes, then go to neutral, then when i reach a certain lower speed, I shift to the appropriate speed. Try to do it smoothly lang. pwede naman "siguro" from third gear to neutral, then apply brakes, then first gear. thats what i do. Please correct me if im doing it wrong. Thanks!

ay may gusto ako itanong na related dito:

-brake while gears are engaged, then shift/disengage pag kailangan na, or
-brake, then immediately disengage gears then shift when a certain speed is reached, or
-disengage gears, brake, then shift when a certain speed is reached?

I've done all three in the course of learning how to drive, pero dun ako sa unang technique. ano po ba ang advantages (if any) and disadvantages ng bawat technique?

IMO
yung una when criusin on street na may intersections or slowing down kung mabagal yung nasa harap and you cant change lane or preparing to stop. - stopping power

yung pangalawa at pangatlo on a straight road (at walang masyadong car) kung may scenery ka na gustong namnamin or kung nawawala ako?lol

On a downhill i think never went neutral, i do mind rpm basta nasa 1 to 2k applying a bit of brake to help the engine while engine braking.

I think small cars are the way to go. unless you really need the boot space and you drive on highways all the time, talagang lahat pros eh. same or better ang consumption, mas maliit so mas madali i-park at mas nimble, and it's designed for always-slow city driving, and all that for a smaller price, at kahit 100k lang ang difference, malaki na yun para sa tao

Prejudice statement, obviously, by your officemate. Has he ever driven one? Defensive and bias ako kasi I own one, a Hyundai Eon to be exact. And I love every inch of it!

Physics, remember.
