Another piece of history -- what a year -- Dyanibee also tied the knot with M last week. Very cool. Huge hugs all around from the band. All falling like flies.....

..... that leaves Dopedeeva, Kim, Mang Vic, and Lefty.... Hmmmm....  :-D

A piece of history made tonight: Tricie and Miguel's wedding. Jam city.

• 3beers on nylon string with Margarita G., Soprano for the ceremony
• Rats' rock & Roll lineup for the first few tunes following the cake cutting: Migs, Dyanibee, Tricie, Lefty with Tirso Ripol, then David Aguirre replacing Tirso
• The Jerks in fine form for the first set with Brutus on skins, joined by Jun Lopito, Karl Roy
• The Jerks started the 2nd set with Dyanibee on bass, Bennii Obaña on skins, joined by Kevin Roy

Had to leave early, but also in attendance were Dr. Ted, Joey P., the guys from Razorback, Wolfgang, Lokomotiv, Blue Rats, Mishka Adams, Charlie Y., and it wasn't over...... wonder who else jammed...... somebody fill in the blanks.

A great evening so far....  8-)

Heya!

Thank you so much for all the well wishes! It was really good to see you guys over the holidays. Loved having a bit of a play with you guys too! The rest of the (wedding) night continued with more jams. Pretty much everyone got up to play. You guys should have stayed!!!!! Even my dad come up to sing 'Satisfation' with the jerks :). It was really great to hang with you guys again. Much, much love...

P.S. Joey, I don't know where you guys were when we took this picture. I'm going to hunt down our picture...
P.P.S. Where's my husband???  :-D

Trice,

So very very cool pics!!! That was such fun and a great rock n roll wedding.

One regret was we didn't get to jam more with you and Migs during your visit. Bitin yung Handlebar!!! But hey... you only get married once, at least hopefully.

Please note the pics: Some things change (you in a full length dress) and others stay the same (Jeez Loiuse.... Johnny's still in black!!!).  :-D

Fun gig last night at Handlebar. Great contrast between Joey's exotic note choices, 3beers' searing lines and lefty's super greasy phrasing. Was really happy sitting down,  and watching the interplay: the encyclopedia, the redneck, and the rockstar.  :-D  Mang Vic and Dyanibee really held down the fort, Whitey shockingly realized he was playing in the wrong key within two notes, and DD's voice is getting BIIIIGer!!!

The summary:

• An interesting lineup of jammers.... Dennis Mabanta tripping along on Elizabeth Reed, Tom Colvin contorting through Sunshine and Crossroads, Tebbet G. belting out Chain, and Minco Fabregas' (yet another occasional Rat in a past life!) supremely sticky backbeat on Mustang and Chain. But we forgot to ask Ka Roger to jam!!!

• The babe patrol was in the house. Siyempre -- lefty the rockstar was burning up the fretwire.  :-D

• May laban ang spicy sausage at yung kropeck.

joey and i were talking about that too when he sat down to let kedy have a go onstage last friday. DD is definitely the most improved of the bunch. not that the rest of you are slouches, but its different from when i caught you guys last year. having to sing 2 sets helps eh?

i also just realized last friday (sorry, i'm slow :-D) that what makes you guys genuinely fun to watch is that you seem to be genuinely having fun yourselves onstage. there's are songs with lot of looking at each other and pointing and signalling to and laughing at each other but everything always seems to fall into place. sort of like falling down a flight of stairs and landing on your feet every time. good fun. :D

what happened to kim? does she still sing for you guys? did i miss that story in the previous pages? abangan... sa... the buzz!!!

Cut the allopurinol, drink lots of water and don't forget to take the non-steroidal anti-inflammatories with your meals. Hehehe -- I have it too. In fact, we used to refer to ourselves as the gout band because so many of the guys who played with the Rats have it. Too much bar chow and yummy foodies -- a simple case of paying for one's past indulgences.  :-D

Keep that foot elevated....

It's the natural state of progression -- singing 2 full sets regularly definitely helps, and DD should and will continue to get better. She's turning into a mighty fine blues belter -- it's called "youth". For the rest of us creaky relics on the other hand, it's downhill from hereon in! The only hope we have for improvement is to get tastier -- the physical side has definitely seen better days. Dem bones and muscles are approaching the pre-departure area. The uric acid is building up in the joints (see previous post). I figure that in about 5 years, the search for chops viagra will begin....  :-D

Having fun onstage is really a direct result of losing any insecurities and not worrying about "getting it exactly right" all the time -- feeling comfortable enough to try the oddball thing or two on the fly. Once one stops being concerned about looking cool and comes to terms with the idea that "it's ok to mess around... just let everyone else know about it", then the real fun begins. Things stay nice and loose, players are listening to each other, and everyone makes each other salo so you land on your feet. The hallmark indicators for good communication are flexible eyebrows and elongated upper lips.

We miss Kim -- she has to have a few procedures done on her throat (tonsils, etc.) and had to take a break for a while.  We're hopeful it all gets sorted out and she can make it back. Missing that added dimension of having two interplaying voices on many tunes. Not to mention the "double cutie" factor and the more perverse thoughts this seems to generate among testosterone equipped members in the audience like you guys....

Hey... it's the blues.

yep, alalang alala ko yang usapan na yan. instead of being called the blue rats...the blue gouts seemed more appropriate.

takot na takot nga ako kasi baka nahawa na ako sa mga kabanda kong ito....being thin doesn't mean you won't ever have gout in the future---si edmond had it then. crazy times!

The way I see it there's no real venue where you can go and just jam.  I advise that you go to the gigs of whoever... The Blue Rats, Firebottle, Snakecharmer, whoever... make friends and before you know it you'll get to jam.  All that's asked of you is that you play along with whatever all of you are familiar with and that you know what you're doing.  A jam may just be a jam, but it's also part of the show, and nothing ruins a good show better than a bunch of musicians who aren't on the same wavelength.  See you at the gigs!   :-D
