@paeng16:
A little of topic. I just can't help but react on this after reading the entire thread.
No offense meant bro but it seems that you are confusing newbies here rather than helping. I understand you only meant to help and that is appreciated but it seems that you yourself is a little misinformed about your own kit. You admitted that you can hardly tell the difference between a Poplar shell and an Ash while owning a Pearl Forum and thinking all the time that it was made out of Maple? Then you also gave an advice to one to pick Ash over a Maple shell because it sound better? Hmmm...quite confusing views there my friend.
I owned a Pearl Forum myself (FZ Series) and I am familiar with it from the shell material to the hardware just because I did my research before buying it. After playing with it for a week, I realized the snare had a problem and can't be tuned no matter what I do. It turned out the bearing edge has problems. I decided to return it and upgraded to a Gretsch Catalina Maple. I paid a lot more but it was well worth it. Maple shells are normally more expensive than Ash. Does it sound better? Well, as anyone would say, it all depends on your taste but if you will base it on the price category, Maple is of higher value. My point is, let us not try to influence others of what they should and shouldn't buy. What sounds good for us may sound like crap to others. Like any art form, music/sound is very subjective. What we should try here is just point them to the right direction on where and what is available to them at all price range. I know some here get too carried away with their kits to a point of sounding like fan boys and I don't blame them, besides, we all should be proud of our priced possessions. But we also should be very responsible and avoid recklessness when giving advice specially to the ones new to the world of drumming as it might confuse them more.
Now back to regular programming.
Cheers.
