If we had not told you about the wood composition would you still love your kit the same? :? If so forget that we even mentioned it. :-D

Do not under estimate Poplar wood as it produces great sound as well, I barely notice the difference between Maple and Poplar on some of my drums. I totally agree with what Peeves and Plep said, to invest in cymbals, good drum heads, and for me to add invest on lessons..

Thanks for the info Akira, this is one of the reasons why I love the forums. I get information with no discrimination!  :-D

I've seen the Pearl Reference and Vision last night and as said by you, pleps and Dr. Peeves. I can't tell the difference of a maple shell and poplar.

Actually I am selling my set not "mainly" because of the its poplar shell (since I can't tell the sound difference of a poplar and maple, and the people I trust here on the boards enlightened me about it.).

magresearch muna, magtanong, magisip bago bumili. :-)

OT: nung binili ko yung beginner kit ko, depressed ako, wala ako sa sarili, may nagsabi sakin, "do what you really want".

If you are a beginner, first of all be sure you are serious about the commitment in learning. WIll you stick with it? 2nd of all buy drums that are functional. Look at the hardware. The metal pieces on the drums basically. If its a used kit does it look rusted out? Are there pieces missing? Does it look like cheap plastic painted with silver paint for the lugs? You'd be suprised what garbage is out there and who would love to sell it to you. Drum shells? Best thing to realize is that drum stores will try and tell you shells are evetything when it comes to you sounding good. Not true. It's all in buying decent drum heads, learning how to tune without pillows tape and all the other garbage. Most importantly if you learn how to play and hit the drums right then whether you have birch, maple or fiberglass shells you will have YOUR sound. SO buy drums with decent strong durable hardware. Cymbals are just something you develope taste for over time. FUnctionality and durability of hardware is the key.

Basically buy whatever cheap brand you can find with strong hardware that doesnt look too cheap. If you buy something really bad and it will rust or break. Even just a cheap pearl export or fernando kit. Dont but expensive cymbals. Cymbals preference will increase as experience comes. Later he or she can buy the cymbals he really prefers. Decent heads and proper tuning without tape and pillows etc will determine how the kit sounds. Also technique development. How he or she hits the drums in context to tuning etc. I wouldnt go too deep into the shell talk. Yes maple kind of sounds different than birch and etc etc, but tuning, head choice and playing have most to do with having a good sound. Developing an original sound. If the student learns that concept from the start from a real teacher, then he is good to go. Just my opinon.

compare nyo sa internet yung mga items na bibilhin nyo kung nasa tamang range ba yung price:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/
http://www.music123.com/
http://www.zzounds.com/

di yata praktikal topagbasihan  kasi kung yung price lang diyan pagbabasihan w/ out the importing fees, luge mga seller.. mahal yata i import or i ship ang drum items dito lalo na cymbals ang bigat bigat talo sa UPS or FEDEX hehe i remember nung bumili ako nung isang set ng B8 cymbal (14" hats, 16" crash, 20" ride) set w/ free 18" crash and cymbal bag just for 215$. i bought it dahil sobrang nice deal then nung ipinapa ship ko na papunta dito sa pinas from my cousin sa california nasa 210-230$ ang shipping using UPS or FEDEX nyahahaha naghinaty na lang tuloy ako ng mag ha hand carry

Mas mahal compared to the normal acoustic ones but pwede nga naka headphones lang. Ok kaya 'to for newbies?

Im not a professional, but tingin ko if starting kit lang ang hanap mo mura na yung 12k, pero smartest move pasama ka sa professional before buying the kit, pa test mo sa kanya para malaman mo kung ok pa ung set.

Tip ko lang is to do extensive research talga. Take advantage of the internet. Then talk to friends or people who have 1st hand experience with the item that you are interested in. If kaya nyo, see it in person, try i out. Read reviews din and lastly, observe it's price.  :-)

Uhm... Check niyo yung original price then tignan ninyo yung condition nung item na binebenta.
Check niyo yung buong item talaga as in buo, para wala kayong masabing reklamo sa nagbebenta... :-)

have a set of choices tapos elimination technique nalang.hehe
