At the moment, I'm using a 42 Strand (PureSounds) on my MMX 14x5.5.

Depending on how you tune the drum in the first place, it will give you a drier, hearty sound.

The snares itself, I find muffles the drum enough to rid of the unwanted ring -when tuned medium tension (top and bottom)

When tuned higer, I find the snares get a little more lively and gives of more 'crack' -still with a drier sound, compared to the 22 strand.

Hope this helps.

more wires = wetter sound

less wires = drier sound

one more observation for 42 vs 20+/- snare wires: even if you use a [gooey brown stuff] reso head like lazer's single ply, you still get to hear a lot of those snapping wire sound as if your sensitivity wasnt affected. you lose that definition when you put thicker reso heads on a 20+/- snare wire. it starts to sound like a tom or timbale.

Ibig sabihin masyadong similar in pitch yung toms at snare mo. I-tune mo yung snare away from the tom pitch. (Or i-tune mo yung tom, pwede rin.)

gabun ba yun?

hindi ba mag buzz na talaga ang snare wire cause it is taut, making it very reactive to bass frequencies? yung acoustic guitar ko nga sa kwarto nag riring ang strings kung tinotodo ko ang subs ... and yung snare sa bahay, nag bu buzz talaga pag nag ba bass ako kahit anong note pinipindot ko.

I'm not completely sure about this one, pero sabi nila, a snare shell having "snare beds" will reduce buzzing. My old fernando piccolo had these and napansin ko, reduced talaga yung buzzing compared sa isa pang stock snare drum ko.

snare beds are to make sure that the wires will buzz  :-D

FYI snare drums without snare beds will never buzz because the snare wires will never make contact with the bottom head

buzzing is good for your health, you dont want your snare drum to sound like a timbale right?

excessive buzzing is irritating and the cheapest and best solution is to learn how to setup the snare drum properly including tuning it with respect to the other drums. if all else fails, buy a good souding snare drum but then again, it wont eliminate the buzz

drummers and buzz must live in harmony. that's the only way we can achieve world peace!

gamit ko kasi drum dial. medium to loose ang toms at medium to high

the drum dial is not a tuner, at least not in the sense of a guitar tuner where it tells you exact frequencies.

the dial just measures the tension on your drum head and by no means tell you what frequency is being produced. my point is even if you have medium to loose tom and medium to high snares, they might still resonate at the same frequency (same tuning) ergo you get more buzz than usual.

Hindi naman siguro in all cases sir peeves..I'm sure marami dyan na "perfect" na ang elimination of snare buzz to a complete mute while hitting the toms or kick..hard but possible.. :-D

tatlo lang yung nakakapagdagdag ng buzzing: either mahigpit yung tom mo, mahigpit yung snare mo, or mahigpit yung wires mo. yung snare wires ko hindi ko hinihigpitan. so nawawala din naman yung buzz ng snare. haven't tried the snare beds though. :-)

..or mahigpit yung wires mo..

I think its the other way around? The looser the wires the more they vibrate therefore snare buzz..the tighter the wires gives more crack but somewhat lessens the buzz.. :?

@blackhawk7a

..your snare can't be tune by just anybody to eliminate the buzz..it is advisable to bring our tom as well..better yet bring the "tuning person" to you drum set for tone balance between the toms and snare..
