Marshall in a box recommendations
« on: November 14, 2011, 12:02:31 PM »
What do you suggest guys for a Marshall in a box? I'm thinking AC/DC up to GNR range of gain. upper mid range bark, the bass need not be as tight. very open and dynamic to picking style. pwedeng distortion/OD pedal ang suggestions niyo pero if it is a preamp, much better.

eto pala ang premise ko sa gear: I use a les paul type guitar with EMG pickups. kaya important sakin ang open and dynamic pedal kasi high gain na at compressed yung EMG's to begin with. tapos I have a booster/OD pedal - Amptweaker Tightdrive if I want to tighten up any loose bass frequencies.

ito mga naiisip ko: Catalinbread DLS MKII, Wampler Plexi-drive, 320 brown feather pero masyadong mahal hehe. ano pa suggestions niyo? TIA :)

By trying to look unique, everyone ends up looking the same.
-goes with the "sound" too

Kung Plexi-ish rather than JCM800-ish, Plexidrive na nga siguro. The Boss ST-2 at low gain isn't bad either (and it can really jack the gain up real high when you need it, at the expense of some hum of course). BSIAB2 might be ok for you (but I have my doubts -- useful gain range is pretty narrow).

Right now, I have this new old stock Toadworks John Bull Jr. which I got from a shop in Amsterdam a few weeks ago -- just a simple open-sounding (as far as British style overdrives go, anyway) two-knob pedal. I haven't spent a lot of time playing with it yet (mukhang hindi perfect match with my Vox AC30). But you might find something similar to your liking, since you have lots of other tone-shaping pedals on tap.

Thanks sa recommendations, keep them coming.

sa mga nag-recommend ng Shredhead, in my experience with the pedal sa pagtest niya. yung sweet spot niya nasa higher gain range than what i'm looking for. correct me if im wrong here.

Best Marshall plexi tone I've had - Dyna Red Distortion. I had the Bearfoot version (which is exactly the same anyway) but echo_ikaw here has the BJFe one. Very dynamic and stacks well with others.

No need to look for further :-)

I agree with the Plexidrive, I've read sa ibang forum na maglalabas ng Plexidrive na may EQ. That's something to look forward to. Check mo din Barber Direct Drive.

I resurrected my BSIAB2 and modified the 470 uf capacitor to a 560uf gave more mids. Pedal sounded better now. But the BSIAB sounds good in a solid state amp and doesn't sound that goon plugged in tube amps.
I have stated that there are more bad sounding suhrs then there are good ones.
