Your guitar practice schedule.
« on: September 15, 2006, 01:16:29 AM »
Hey I’ll post my guitar practice schedule... share yours so we can help each other out.  :D

2 hours of chromatic scales with a metronome
Guitar wanking for like hours and hours (never counted)

Since I'm just a bum all my time is devoted to my girlfriend, my band, my friends, and my guitar playing.

I started with a 40 tempo and I would practice chromatic scales for 2 hours everyday. Consistency is the key my friends.

And every week that past by, I add to the tempo by 5.

And taking one day breaks really help. Taking a break for one day without touching your guitar actually helps! But of course you should be really into praticing guitar by that point.  Hope this helps! – Chase

typical practice?

metronome din --minsan wala.......warmups..chromatic...

then scales ---4 note sequences, 3 notes, 5 notes, 6 notes...

then mag trip---basa ng hanon, for piano yun guys.ok din.

then blues in G,A and E magdamag.

guitarist telling the drummer what the intro to laklak was. caught on video.at binilangan pa ang drummer 1-2...1-2-3..lol

what? you practiced at 40 for two hours? hope youre not autistic, bro. hehe, peace. parang pakiramdam ko tuloy sobrang tamad ko.
kapag sinipag 30 mins chromatic, 30 mins picking, 30 mins penta and blues, 1 hour yosi break, 3 hours siesta. kapag sinipag pa ko nyan.

Yup I did start with 40 and let me tell you, it wasnt easy!  :?  I wanted to throw my guitar out of the window. And I wanted to watch tv at the same time but it wouldnt be desame because you need full focus. Thats the thing, its really really hard at the start but once you get used to it you will have that "I need to play guitar before anything else" feeling.  :D

stretching
chromatic
alternate picking
string skipping
legato
tapping
sweeping

kagaya ni sir phil nakakapagpractice lang ako when i do songs or kung may live na tutugtugan(church): once a week.

Wes Montgomery to name a few. Ngayon, I'd like to learn yung jazz approach tapos icocombine sa rock, fusion na... etc. hehe! balak pa lang. naghahanap pa din ng pam paenganyo tumugtog! 8)

+1 man, I envy you guys with time on your hands and the commitment but Im just stuck here with planning for the future and the desire to be an awesome guitar player is so out the window for me. Most times I just wanna have fun, crank the amps, dial some cool sounds on the stomps.
I try to play the notes clearly but thats about it.

Buti pa kayo may time mag practice. When I have time.. usually about 10-20 minutes.. I play with my acoustic.. :D

Before I used to practice for about 2 hours..

Chromatics
Scales
Improvisation
Song Writing

gone are the days when i had a strict practice regimen (mine wasnt very strict though). now, i may not have a set schedule for vibrato, legato, picking, improv and all the other stuff pero i'm always playing. i mean when i'm at home and i'm not really doing anything, i always have an electric strapped up. my fingers are just moving on it and its usually not even plugged in.

these days, wala na, i just try to get in at least an hour of "plugged in" practice everyday. "try" pero madalas it never happens. my first electric, retired from gigging duties, is always plugged into an amp and just sitting on a stand (when i'm not walking around with it). i just noodle while watching tv or something. or pag nagising ng maaga, i pick it up and plunk away till its time to go to work.

yung real serious practice comes when its time to learn new songs to cover. dun i work on whatever i need to make the songs bearable and some of those necessitate learning new techniques.

i dont practice much anymore, wala nko time sa dating 6 hr long practice regimen ko eh.. but what im doing right now is learning as many a songs sa ipod ko(abt 2-3x a week, dpende sa work load).. un mga nsa odd keys esp (ung mga nsa F#m or Eb or Gm or Bm), ung mga lihis sa comfort zones ko.. & i try 2 improvise over them melodically using fewer notes if possible(& try..

2 warm me up.. i play the police' "every breath u take" for a mild stretching & string skipping appetizer, followed by mr.big's green-tinted sixties mind.. play 2 songs  from start 2 finish & that gives u close 2 10min warm up

or if ur a shredder, warm up w/ satch/vai tunes (teka, parang di yta pang warm up 2)

i understand how you feel jun gats...had the same situation too...

lalo na nung nanganak ang misis ko.i have two baby girls. naykupo..whenever i tried to practice..magigising ang isa. pag napatulog ang isa, ung isa mag pupupo..

but then there's a saying, if you're really dedicated...you'll find a way no matter what.

may nabasa akong article ni steve morse....one tip to practicing when it seems like you have no time is to leave your guitar on a stand para ready to use when you have some idle time. now this might be a problem when you have pets or kids running around the place.

but just leaving it on a case on the floor might be suffice. ako ung amp ko ready to rumble na when i get done with my chores dito sa work--caregiver po ako. so what i do pag walang magawa, naghihintay na pumupupo si amo, gitara muna sandali--noodling, keeps your hands warm...kumbaga maintenance.

---tapos punas pupo ni amo... hehe
