Are you talking about my pic? That's a maple top for a Thinline build. Will probably rethink how I will chamber the body though.

I see. May thread ka ba ng build mo?

Question: Diba when you level frets, you need an extremely flat leveling beam? With that said, hindi ba kinoconsider yung radius nung fingerboard? Kasi diba, fretwires are not actually flat, but are slightly arced?

hi. may tanong lang ako..

im planning to have the speaker of my amp (Maxon GX10, solidstate) upgraded from 8inches to 12... the problem is, i don't know kung ano yung pwede replacement.. nalilito kasi ako sa specs..

Some say it's effective while some say otherwise.

Kakatamad mag-build thread eh. Hindi naman regular yung woodworking ko. Pag may free time lang

I've got a strat that's almost done and I never got around to snapping a photo yet. Hahaha!

To answer your question, you're right that the radius needs to be considered. You can use a radiused block so you can level the frets and maintain the radius desired. But for those who don't have radiused blocks, you can use a small flat sanding block to level the frets. Now this block needs to be only 1-2 inches wide so you can avoid flattening the radius of fret. The aim is to level the frets relative to the surrounding frets by lightly going back and forth. The narrow width of the file/sanding block will allow you to follow the radius of the fret on the fingerboard.

Magulo ba? I just typed and typed without proofreading this post LOL

hehe. dont worry kuya chino.. part of my plan already.. will make a cab for the speaker..

iconvert to na lang to amp head yung controls nung maxon.. since nagagandahan talaga ako sa clean sound niya... i was wondering if the bigger speaker will make the sound better... para kasing bitin at parang "maliit" yung tunog ko dun sa stock speaker eh.. will make a thread siguro about the DIY thing...

i got the inspiration from the net eh... i just cant find the link..

Did a lot of reading and Youtube watching before embarking on this task and sucked up my jitters and finally got down to it and started defretting the neck of my Ovation Viper...

Scraping sides of the fret...

The very first fret I had removed my entire life! I had to take a short break to catch my breath and collect my senses before proceeding.  :-P

Heating up the fret wire. Seems no glue was used but I plan to glue when I get to installing the new frets.

I was really careful during this step. Concentrated on a subtle squeeze on the pliers with a more subtle hinged pull up until I can get the pliers edges in and then I just let the pliers edges work they way throughout the fret without any upward pull.

Getting the hang of it with the succeeding frets but never becoming complacent. So far so good...  :)

Uy nice. Napanuod ko din yung vid na ganito. Using soldering iron, scraping the sides, etc.
You gonna refret the whole fingerboard? :-)

Nakaraos din sa pagtanggal ng mga frets... Mga limang oras din inabot.

I take back yung nabanggit ko na hindi mukhang glued yung fret wire.

That book looks familiar..

Fret puller was bought from a seller on eBay called universal_jems.

Importante ito para makasingit between the fret and the board.

You're welcome! :) Hanggang dito muna pansamantala. Inu-utay-utay ko pa ang ibang gamit.

May time para mag-assess ng fret slots vis-a-vis fretwire to be installed at magmuni-muni/internalize ng next steps.

-------------------

Tingin ninyo?

Go with medium. That's just me. Did you buy the Jescar wire in a bundle, or pre-cut? Sayang yung fretwire na sobra eh.

Parang medium mas bagay.  Ano yung guitar?  You mentioned ovation?  24 frets?

Yes sir. Ovation Viper. 24-fret.

Sayang naman yung mga sobra.

Medium!

Pre-cut at pre-radiused 9.5" (eBay:philaluthiertools).

I agree, maaksaya sa wire.

Nung nag-search kasi ako sa eBay ng "jescar", marami options yung seller at reasonably priced w/ shipping. Naisip ko din na I don't have to bother with curving the wire and the shorter pieces won't easily get deformed during shipment if a tube or box was not used.

Medium, it is. Salamat.

Stew Mac Kumusta quality? Kinonsider ko yung crowning files ni philaluthiertools but decided to go with Uo-Chikyu crowning files.

Nope. Kay DIYHardware siya galing :-P It's a regular, plain-as-a-school-day-in-July, small triangle file. Pinadaan ko lang sa sander yung egdes para blunt na sya to avoid marring the fingerboard. I recommend you use 3 coats of masking tape on your board para sure. Mahirap na magkamali ;-)
