Yun naman pala. This weekend I was at ace hardware looking for something for nut filing. Sobrang thick ng mga files nila. Then I went to watsons, baka pwede na yung nail file, hehe, pero hindi pala rough yung sides nya so hindi pwede.

gano ka narrow yung tenon saw? Pwede ba sya sa .009 na nut slot?  If pwede to Ill treat you a 6-pack for saving me money :-)

Not sure. 0.040-0.050 maybe?

If you don't mind buying online, 12 USD lang ang Stanley dovetail saw. My friend uses one. (not exactly like this, but something similar)

Hi markcasq,

wala ako mahanap na for sale CHANNEL, BOOST, & REVERB.

Thank you in advance,

Hi Yekoz, I have no diagram for the footswitch.  But you can figure out the diagram on your own by testing how the wiring behaves.  Connect a stereo cable at the footswitch jack of the amp, and then short the terminals to ground and see what happens.  Whatever works, then replicate it using your switch (not sure if the switch is momentary or latching, but you can figure it out).

By the way, I found footswitch for sale sa ebay:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Genuine-Fender-Footswitch-for-London-Pro-Stage-185-Deluxe-85-Eighty-Five-/200784906552?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ebfb68938#ht_2168wt_1163

Ganyan yun diba?  You can order it worldwide shipping.

Then I'll just use the welding tip cleaner for slotting the nut.  Sige I'll try that.  Salamat!  Lupet, I love this thread!

After inspecting things a bit, I started cutting off the excess wire. Gumamit ako ng pick (na ginupit ko lang dati) para mag-iwan ng allowance for filing (but it was not necessary as I went along).

Sinimulan ko na mag-apply ng tru-oil... quite straightforward and very easy to do... Notice the contrast between side with tru-oil applied and side without.

1st coat all done!

For the next several days, puro tru-oil application lang ang gagawin ko. Compared to the tedious Saturday and Sunday of fret wire installation, tonight was quite a breeze! :)

Sir Jobo, looking great!  So that's how frets are seated, may sobra pala, and then pinuputol.

@ Yekoz - the footswitch is more complex than just a switch, if you look at the parts list below, there's pcb and switching diodes involved.  You might want to write to Fender to ask for a schematic.

Sir Jobo, looking great!  So that's how frets are seated, may sobra pala, and then pinuputol.

A fret saw (or a tenon saw) is more useful IMO. For nut slots, you can use the fret saw to score the initial cut and then use a welding tip cleaner to fine tune the depth.

I decided to get the uo chikyu set. The welding tip cleaner kasi is not exact, eh noob ako baka ma damage ko lang yung nut slot ko sayang.

Question lang. What should I get, 9 gauge set or 10 gauge set?  Ill be using it both for 9s and 10s. Mahal na kasi if dalawang set.  Im thinking 9s then medyo i widen ko na lang yung slot when using it for 10s. Or baka maging uneven and potential binding sa nut?  If 10 gauge naman, dapat ok lang kasi mas wide so mas maluwag, pero baka naman it might affect string spacing.  Help naman.

I had the same dilemma.

9s kasi ang original stringing nung Ovation Viper and then 10s naman yung sa Ibanez ART100DX. Later on in my refret project, I'll be making a new nut for the Ovation Viper and will be stringing it with 9s and I also plan to replace the plastic nut on my ART100DX, eventually.

I went for a set for 10s because:

1. I feel/think/anticipate that I'd be able to make a more consistent filing stroke if I'm concentrating on making the filing stroke as vertical/straight as possible rather than slightly influencing the filing stroke to produce a slightly wider slot.

2. I foresee preferring 10s strings over 9s, long term.

Di magiging problema yung binding for 4th to 6th strings kasi pwede i-rub yung string sa slot.

I guess you can go with a set of 9s if most of your guitars are strung 9s.

Thanks.  Here's the dilemma - I really have a mix.  What would be the potential issue if I use 10 gauge for nuts where I put 9s?

Thanks.  Here's the dilemma - I really have a mix.  What would be the potential issue if I use 10 gauge for nuts where I put 9s?

I think a certain string diameter can only wander too much in a wider slot if the bottom of the nut slot is flat. If it's round, then the string should settle at the lowest point of the round slot and have lesser movement.

Considering string size differences, I think there shouldn't be an issue.

1st string - 0.001" (0.025mm)
2nd string - 0.002" (0.05mm)
3rd string - 0.001"
4th string - 0.002"
5th string - 0.004" (0.1mm)
6th string - 0.004"

A 9s string can only wander half the difference from center (0.0125mm - 0.05mm) on its respective 10s slot, IF it is flat. Should be less or none at all if the slot is round because the string would have to overcome the tension to climb up the slope of the curve for it to wander significantly.

Two of them are the notched straightedge and a 35/90deg bevel file from gmitools/eBay.

Unfortunately, nakaka-5 weeks na, wala pa din. Already contacted the seller from Greece to inform him of the situation. He replied and assured me he can issue a refund, in case.

But I'm still hoping it will arrive this week because I still have until July 14 to file a "case" at the eBay resolution center at sayang na din yung panahon ng paghintay.

Hala, pinakialaman ko na yung table saw sa may workshop area ng Engineering department namin and made this with a 30 degree angle.

As for the notched straightedge, bibili na lang ako ng mahabang stainless na ruler at lagyan ito ng mga notches.

Thanks jobo!  With the Uo Chikyu, I'd go with 10s since as you pointed out rounded file sya.

About your shipment, our attitude here in the philippines should be "order and forget", kasi nakaka frustrate if aantayin mo.  So once nag order ako, kinakalimutan ko na, tapos one day dadating na lang yung notice from the post office.  Kaya I never knew how long it took for the item to arrive, haha.

Ayan, that's the beginning of your luthier quest.  Ayus yung office nyo a, dami gamit!

Update: Share ko lang DIY ng PEAVEY RAGE AMP.

This amp has a CLEAN and DIRT channel.

Problem: The switch channel (push button) is located in between the knobs of the AMP. So if I want to switch channel between CLEAN and DIRT channel I will need to push the small button with my finger.

Solution: Created a foot switch channel at the back of the AMP using STEREO JACK PL, wired the push button switch.

Materials: Stereo Jack PL (female), any wire (with 3 wires) HOT, COLD, GROUND, A regular foot switch.

I'll try to post some pics...
