godbless you bro. :-) I used to weigh 221 lbs. ang bigat ko nun, siguro dahil sa schooling ko din, napabayaan ko yung katawan ko, drums lang yung pinaka exercise ko. ayun, habang tumatagal i begin to experience lower back pains to the point i begin to have difficulty rising from the bed, at worse, walking normally. kala ko skill lang ang need ng drummer, pero di ko napansin na intertwined pala ang drumming and health, kahit ano naman na bagay. mahirap lalo kapag ito ang profession mo, not all the time kaya ng katawan mo mag perform ng maayos. kaya naisipan ko mag diet at exercise. so far, wala na ako nararamdaman na issues sa health ko at napansin ko, i am more stable sa kit at mas kumportable. Its never too late to start a healthier and more productive lifestyle.

no rice noon. :-)

to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome, it's best to do stretches before you play.  There are some stretching techniques involving the wrists, the elbows, and the shoulders. As well as other stretches for your legs and knees.

Pain in the wrists/arms may also be caused by the wear and tear of overuse so konting hinay lang minsan pag wala namang gig.

@sir kibohead: drumming is good cardio  :-D

yup i agree with brady, nurse din ako and so far sa mga nabasa ko, when you play drums you burn 600 calories if you do it in 1 hour. so after reading that, i play drums right after i lift weights hahaha, its a 2 in 1 thing, you get to practice drums and get fit. and of course the diet has a very big part.

and oh if you want to loose more calories, if you can do katha ( you know the karate stuff ) that burns 700 calories in just 15 minutes.

Nurse din ako.... its a combo thing... everything I did was like an exercise....

instead of taking the Elevator... use the Stairs.
when you got your 1st child, carry him/her dont use a stroller... carrying your kid feels like your lifting some pounds..
walk...walk... walk... thats the best exercise.
When you play drums let the sweat flow!!!
eat well... get rid of those fatty foods...

just do things in regularity, dont exhaust yourself..

I go to gym every day. 2-3 hours in no heavy lifts... sinabi ko kasi sa instructor ko na Im a drummer and i dont want to develop my body tulad sa mga muscle heads... Diet is heavy meal at breakfast, fruits only at lunch and  no meals at night...

I do leg flat to 40-50 kgs. raise using both of my foot, but only the heal area... 3 sets(12X3). then after the heal, i switch the lifting to toe area... helps a lot on my double bass drumming.. i used to get tired after 16 beats in 100 bpm in 5mins.. now i can get my foot doing 16 beats for more than 20 mins.. minsan bitin pa, i do triplets for 15 mins, continuesly..

as for my hands. i do dumbel crawls in my palm... in this exercise, only the muscles below the elbows are developed.. none of the triceps and biceps... para hindi mangawit mga for muscles mo after playing 8-12 songs...

Sir!!! ang tagal nun. hahahaha. Woahhh. astig.
Here in Los Banos Laguna, There are alot of great cats that play. Tapos they complain about "nanlalambot ung mga kamay ko". I think its because they didn't warmup before the gig.

Ako cardio nalang (like basketball) kaya ko dude... wala na kasi oras for gym...

And being physically fit "WILL" make you a better player (given that your posture is correct!)...

For me, REGULAR CARDIO (kahit wala nang weights) is all you need.

woooot woooo!!!! P-$$Y MAGNET!!! GRABE!!! hahahaha...

may sinusubukan akong diet, similar kay sir kibohead

instead na no rice, vegetable salad na lang at kung anong ulam namin for 6 days, then sa 7th da na ko magrice at ulam para reward at maibsan yung paghanap ng katawan ko ng rice. tapos 3x a week naman yung jogging/ sit ups/ push ups ko

so the idea is less carbs and more fibers. sana gumana :l hehe

pagdating naman sa drums... warm up muna ko by playing solos on a 90-110 bpm tapos alalay lang sa lakas ng palo na rin...

after mga 5 to 10 mins saka na ko magaaral ng songs or exercices.

Curious lang ako...
Pano kayo mag-praktis???
As in daily ba???
Ilang oras???
Anong routine niyo???

Ako gumawa ako ng 1month routine...
Daily singles, doubles, triples & quads under a constant bpm up to 100 counts...
EX: Singles, 80 bpm, for 100 counts... (Kapag natapos ko up to 100 ng malinis) Then doubles then 3plets then quads... (Tapos +10 ang bpm) Up to +40 bpm ako a day...
Hands, feet then both at the same time...
2weeks palang pero parang walang progress eh...

May biglaang tanung ako mga co-drummers...
Nag-praktis ako kagabi ng 1, 2, 3plets & quads on 100 bpm...
Di ba lalala yung pain??? or may lead to something worse???
