I think it's a matter of school pride.  It's not about competition and who is better, and it really doesn't matter where a musician is/was enrolled.  As long as a musician is an exceptional artist & he/she does it right with his craft, that's what matters to me.

Speaking of school pride...  Here are a few friends of mine from La Salle who have made their marks in the music scene (Some were already mentioned, but I'll just list them down again):

David Aguirre (LSGH HS '96)
Barbie Almalbis
JunJun Regalado (session drummer)
Mark Escueta (Rivermaya)
original members of Passage
Daniel Crisologo
Jay Padua and Norby David (Overtone)
Paolo Manuel (drummer)
Nyoy Volante

I may be a Lasallian, but I also admire plenty of great musicians who studied in other great schools.

Simply be proud of your Alma Mater.

Royal or Mirinda? Sampaguita Pictures or LVN? John or Marsha?

I'm from La Salle Green Hills here...from what I've heard, these guys are really talented, but the music they play is really boring.

You know, I have to get into this discussion because I currently am an Ateneo High School student.

Actually,I rarely hear any La Salle Greenhill "Bands".I know a lot guys from La Salle WHO became pop artists.

Also, being a new student, ayos yung nakita ko na marunong nang mag gitara yung mga 1st year...
Me future....................In fact, andami nangang me gigs.Ang La Salle naman kasi, puro pop usually...(my opinion)

And since Rock is better than pop and Ateneo produces more rock than La Salle....

Ateneo wins.

Go Ateneo!One Big Fight!

I would like to add to this.

I went to Ateneo law and my post graduate law degree was from a Jesuit institution in SF.

I had a band when I was in Ateneo law. But none of them went to Ateneo undergrad nor high school and we played rock.

But my heart is where I went to high school and college. And both have red colors as their banner. So, go San Beda.

Let's see, my band now (Cog) is from the Ateneo batches that had: Plane Divides The Sky, Boy Elroy (not sure if they had high school AHS members, though), Chicosci, Dicta License, Kjwan, Happy Meals, Greyhoundz (via Niņo Avenido), Out of Body Special, Sponge Cola, Rampqueen, 13 Needles, and Day One Movement.

when I myself graduated from the high school, there were bands like the Happy Shrimps and Under Blue Skies (I think atenean ito). I later got into a band with Dale Ibay (Cookies for Kids) for a short while.

That's a lot of bands, and if I were to think like the classic Arrneean, I'd think, shet, dami yan! talo ang Lasalle.

But I'm not. that's a lot of bands, yes, but i have no idea, actually, of how many bands have come out from Lasalle - I never really kept track. It's possible that they have more bands out there, and I am inclined to think that they have more solo singers coming out of their alma mater than Ateneo does.

So should there be a rivalry? I think not. it's all music and musicians anyway - that ateneo/lasalle rivalry crap is just that: crap.

I will add more fuel to the fire that is Ateneo vs. La Salle.

The best people to answer this question are those people who DIDN'T go to Ateneo or La Salle. They would be the best judge on who produces better (NOT MORE) musicians.  Naturally, an Atenean will never acknowledge the superiority of a LaSallite and vice versa.

Since I have an Ateneo post graduate degree, I must inhibit myself from making a list on who is better.

So, graduates of San Beda, UP, UST, CEU, UAP, AMA, and etc, SPEAK UP and tell us who are better musicians.

I have a question for you all....

Why is it that it comes down to where you studied pati sa music? It's bull enough that schools compete for the kill in sports, why music? I thought all the while musicians are born, not taught. Lessons are only there to harness the potential. I guess i thought wrong.

FYI: I am a self-made producer / musician / businessman here in the province and I didn't study at any universities mentioned. But why oh why did i accomplish my goals? It's not the school, it's the skills and determination i had to succeed.

Dude, I hear your problem. But this "question" will never die. It's in music as well. It might not be an actual "battle" but there are ads on TV now about a concert of LaSallian musicians headed by the Dean of the UP College of Music. I am sure there will be an Atenean concert to follow.

As for me, I had a band during my San Beda days. Coincidently, I went to a Bedan high school in the South. So, my music skills was because of my Bedan education.
