After only 3 years in the local music scene and one album to their name, MCA Music superband Franco, has broken up.
Word got out late last week and I have just received the confirmation that the band was indeed broken up.
Franco has made a great name for themselves what with members from highly respected and famous band members being a part of the line up.
Singer/Guitarist Gabby Alipe and Drummer Janjan Mendoza of Urbandub confirmed the news to me while we were together during Urbandub’s performance at the Baybeats Festival in Singapore this last weekend.
Word is, Franco fired the band members, as his goal is to now go solo.  Franco will likely be keeping the band name but will instead be working with session musicians from now on end.  In short, Buwi Meneses of Parokya Ni Edgar, Ocho Toleran of Queso, and Urbandub’s Gabby Alipe and Janjan Mendoza will no longer be part of the line up.
Franco has just recorded his 2nd album and played all the instruments on the recording except for the drums, which were recorded by Janjan Mendoza.
There is still no confirmation on who the new session musicians will be. 2 from Cebu have already been asked but it is still not sure whether they will accept the offer.

Speaking of Pera..I think..medyo sensitive nga to and could be a major reason why bands break up..kahit ba upswing pa career nila...kung friendships and families nga kayang sirain ng pera..tsk tsk..hopefully maayos..

correct..I was about to say this nga....so...kung di nga nila nakukuha yung fair share nila super band members...yun na.. di naman siguro magiging dahilan yung musical differences...hahaha

Good point, honestly I only listened to them because of Janjan's beats...

Franco's voice (however good it was to hear) was just secondary...

heard that their songs are all from franco's prev band, don know if its true though, parang walang input ung ibang members. still, they sound awesome.

^^ yup, that's true. I saw youtube vids before of Franco's former US band and they played exact same songs and sound.  the vids are just gone today. that's why i said the others are just for status.

Agreed. I always thought the other members were recruited to give it a high profile and get casual listeners on the band-wagon.  Now that the objective has been cleared on that end, it's on to phase two for Franco.

Honestly, I barely heard any difference between the finished album and the demos that circulated years before.

Nakakairita lang na lagi ang marketing sa Franco (the band) ay superband eh mga kanta yan ng dating banda ni Franco (the vox).

naka naman from the start, it was just for fun. knowing ocho and buwi, they are really creative and would insist on their ideas in creating songs, nag tataka nga ako eh, para silang cover band ng "inyo". siguro Franco sought help from them and they liked the idea of the project para maiba naman, pahinga kung baga.  haha! gumawa na ng kwento eh noh

pero them Marketing Executives had to to something by getting big name rockers to form a supperband to give Francos music and image and mass appeal a boost....
