having classical background is good start, technique-wise, mataas ang na training mo.

learn the scale, listen to records, watch jazz gig, imitate, listen and watch some more, apply, listen and watch more, practice, get the feel of the music, etc.

Blessings to you.

@ihatethursday, by any chance, do you play electric violin like jerry goodman? he's the original violinist for mahavishnu orchestra.

Of course Ma'am! Checkout these albums by Klazz Brothers para ma-inspire kayo ng husto;

Jazz meets Cuba
Classic meets Jazz(or the other way around!)

these musicians fused classic influences with Jazz standards.Since your'e a pianist,Im sure mabubusog ka sa dalawang album na 'to.
Highly recommended!! :wink:

Hirap din to shift, need to unlearn the instincts from years of classical training. Consistent immersion is needed, I recommend smooth jazz first before going mainstream jazz..

have you heard michal urbaniak?
Quote
In 1985, he was invited to play during the recording of Tutu with the father of fusion, Miles Davis. Davis is reported to have said on this occasion: "Get me this f*ck*ng Polish fiddler!"

He played a central role in the development of jazz fusion in the 1970s and 1980s, and has introduced elements of folk, R&B, hip hop, and symphonic music to jazz.
The common saying that the ears are the ultimate judge in music production? To some extent they certainly are, but as we are now aware, they can also be fooled extremely easily. -- "How The Ear Works" (2011) by Emmanuel Deruty
