After finishing cab # 2 last summer... It's time for another boredom cab build.... #3.  :wink:

DIY Cab Build #2


Since I found that Cab #2 (based on a Fender Bandmaster 2x12 dimensions) was too big for me, moreso to lug it around the house... I opted to make another 2x12 cab that's more compact and will be sporting casters.

Started it last week.. been busy for the past few days.. but I think I'll be working on this for the rest of this week.. Hopefully I can finish it asap.

Baffle cutout


Initial enclosure + some bracing.. yes. butt joint. i like butts.





Rounded edges





Weird front bracing... i hope this works.






Since I really don't want a natural finished cab due to my wood.... I prefer to have it covered, evenly. Thus, the glazing putty all around.. I have found that the adhesive sticks better as well when a glazing putty (masilya) is applied since the wood does not absorb most of it.





Yep.. the baffle as well.. LOL.

yung weird na front bracing ba para mag fit sa mas maliit na enclosure yung mga speaker?

Yup. Tatama kasi sa brace yung mismong speaker. So tinapyas ko na lang. Ganun siya ka-compact. For reference, sakto siya sa dimensions ng Fender Twin Reverb na binawas ko yung space para sa chassis.  :-)

Comment lang (for the next build seeing more or less halfway done ka na, unless of course next build complex joints na gagawin mo!)

It would have made better structural sense to rest the top on the sides themselves instead of it resting on the braces you made for the sides. 

Anyway, syet kelan kaya ako magkakaroon ulit ng enthusiasm gaya mo?  Hehehe!

Thanks bro. Much appreciated. I do think na ganun nga dapat ang mas tama.. Kaya ganyan yung tinry kong butt joint ay para pag nag cover ako, hindi pansin sa gilid yung 'ply', ramdam kasi minsan pag nag cover na.. at least pag ganyan, nasa ilalim siya.. yung sa taas naman, matatakpan ng cover kasi magdodoble jan sa part na yan.. basta.. lol.. pagdating sa covering stage..

On a side note.. since minasilyahan ko din naman, mageeven out din naman yun.. crap.  :eek: ngayon ko lang narealize.

Anyway, habulin ko na lang yung added support sa front baffle (since super snug naman siya sa harap) saka sa back panels at bracing..

kasing lapad din nung DSR head nyo po?
try ko yan dun sa vertical 2x12 ko (pero last pa yun dun sa to build list ko  :lol: )

anong speakers po plan nyong gamitin?

Yup. Yung DSR head ko naman, yung enclosure niya ay same length and depth lang din sa Twin Reverb..  :-P

Hmm.. Yung dating Jensen MOD pa rin.. Unload ko muna dun sa cab#2.. pag nakascore ng magandang Marshall head, baka lagyan ko ng Gov or V30 yung cab#2..

Hahaha! Hindi, naka display lang lahat sa bahay. lol. But seriously, I like that kind of setup (2 2x12s + 2 heads).. Then a few small grab-and-go amps..  :-)

Nakow.. more speakers, more fun.. hahaha.. mukhang di pa kaya ng building powers ko ang 4x12.. much more to buy 4 additional speakers.. hahaha!  :eek:

4x12 na!!  :-D

A few tips, I dunno kung na-mention ko in your previous threads.  You gotta be careful around the baffle areas when you're cutting out the holes.  Sa maninipis na lugar like in between the speaker holes, or between speaker and side edges.. nakow!!  Also, try drilling in the holes for the T-nuts or bolts (that hold the speaker) before doing the main cutouts.  If you do T-nuts, drive them in earlier also.  Minimizes the risk of splits and tearouts.  In any case, since nandyan na, ingat na lang as you did before when you drill the small holes.  Just a friendly reminder. :wave:

Thanks bro. Never had any problems so far with the method I'm doing. Sana maging ok hanggang matapos.  :-)

Updates!

I covered the speaker baffle with my black cover, para malinis tingnan. Although gagawan ko pa rin ito ng speaker grill frame.

Next...

Placed the baffle in the cab and drilled holes for the screws.... screwed it in place as well.



Black on white looks pretty nice. Parang Soldano..


Wrapped the sides with my black cover.. I'm using a different cover material now.. It's not cheap. Lol. A bit pricey.. but it's made in Germany.  :-P

Things has gotten slow lately.. was too busy with industrial reactor designs and mixers and separators and heat exchangers.. lol.. wtf.

Anyway.. Updates.

I only had 4 corners.. I installed them at the bottom part.. Will get some more for the upper portion..  :-)

Was supposed to install casters as well... pero nung sinusukat ko na, kakaiba pala yung isang caster na nabili ko! badtrip. mas mataas siya ng konti dun sa tatlo although pareho lang diameter ng wheels.... useless.

That's all for now..

Did two guitar racks today as well.. :)

Been really busy lately.. Finishing up this cab and some guitar racks..

Don't envy me....hahaha! These are things I do pag may konting free time at may hinihintay na mga bagay.. para madivert attention ko.  :-P
