Disect the song into Bar: Intro, Stanza/Verse, Refrain, Chorus... etc...
This.
First daw kapain is Bass pattern and then Snare and then Hi- Hats.. and then saka na yung iba..
This.
And...
* I always count - Many songs, the bass drum beat falls on 1 & 3, snare falls on 2 & 4. Understanding note values is very important.
* I prefer high bit-rate music files and use Audacity to listen to the song. I can select sections, cycle play, and even slow down the speed, if needed (nagiging ngo-ngo nga lang, hehe).
* I prefer to be as faithful and as close as possible to the song I'd like to cover.
* I use Guitar Pro to transcribe the song, print then paste on a folder, label, and practice with it. It is difficult to memorize variances a drummer puts into the song even if overall, the beat is the same and a hard copy reference will always help. Difficult parts, I practice slow with counting and build up to the correct tempo as I get more comfortable.
* I like transcribing drum parts of songs. It can be a bit hard at times but it helps train my ears to hear the details and is a good exercise in notation and reading.
Thanks musiciannurse28, I'll read on Chris Coleman ABC method when I can.
Parang ang sosyal i-pronounce ng ziphra, hehe. Di ko din alam tamang spelling nito. "Sipra" ginagamit ko kapag sinasalita pero kapag ita-type ko na, "transcribe" na lang ang gagamitin ko
