Ideally, you would have more than one compressor with each assigned to critical tracks like kick, bass and maybe vocals. But if have only one compressor, use it as a limiter in the main output insert.

Depends on the situation, type of musc and system headroom, as well as venue acoustics.

if you have many compressors, you can insert on individual tracks like kick, snare, vocal, bass - basically tracks with transient information which you might want to control

if you have few compressors, you can insert on the group/bus - such as drums

depending on the type of music, jazz and other dynamic music you might not want to compress - but pop and rock you might definitely want to compress.

compressor/limiter on main mix is a good safety practice, gives a punchy full sound, too.

it depends but for live sound i've always used it as a sub insert mainly because i group parts of a drum together and compress that way to gel the mix better before it goes out to the mains. this has a lot to do with the venue acoustics.

for studio work, its different. i use a combination of both. i mix compressors in as an insert and also use it in my group submixes depending on whether the group needs to sound more cohesive. that said, WHICH compressors you use also matter since all of them sound different. A Manley Slammer is different from a Distressor and such. headroom to me is important since I don't like compressing when I don't need to. the final mix is key and dynamics is key so to produce a final product that is lively and put together should be your barometer for mixing -not where you should put your compressors in along your chain.

pwede po iyo sir, depende po sa inyo kung panu ang pagkasunod-sunod ng mga processors nyo

tama yan, dapat kasi mas close yung limiter sa amp; minsan kasi kapag inuna mo yung limiter, mag-e-exceed parin dahil sa maling setting ng equalizer.

Threshold - ito yung kung kailan maactivate yung compressor/limiter
ratio - for example 2:1 anf ration, for every 2db na lalagpas dun sa threshold setting mo, 1db lang ang ibabalik nya
attack - gaano kabilis
hold - kailan nya irerelease

well eto yung setting nung sa amin (limiter ang function ng compressor namin)

Threshold - minaximaze ko cya bago mag clip sa amp
Ratio - 1:infinite, para hindi mag-exceed talaga kapag nag-malakas ang signal
attack pati hold - depende sa prefer nyong setting, di ko maalala yung sa amin

although yung dbx166xl meron namang limiter sya each side, nasa inyo parin. meron din tips sa manual ng dbx166xl

kapag 1:8 na po ang ratio parang limiter na po ang effect nya, sa madaling salita parang hinarangan nyo na yung soundwave ng brickwall,

kung para sa main speakers, mga 1:2 lang po ang ratio, iba din po ang tunog ng bawat time ng attack at release, bawat millisecond counts

 - threshold: 0db

 - ratio: 1:4

 - attack/release: set to auto

 - output gain: 0db

 - peakstop limiter: +5db or lower
