Well, I looked and looked for a dedicated thread for Analogman Pedals here but no luck, so here goes... warn me if you find one.
I recently got myself an Analogman King of Tone V4, with the high gain red side. I got it used, but the price wasn't all that far from a brand new one. The condition is pristine, so that justifies the purchase a little. The only thing that needed the final justification was the tone it can deliver.
I have never spent much on overdrives. I was more on fuzz boxes back then but having read all the fuzz (pun), and watched numerous youtube demos/reviews and such, I decided to go Analogman instead of the Ethos OD (which was $75 more as posted on the ad over here).
I can say, after spending 3 hours of playing and tweaking at mid volume, (I just used it on a ZT Lunchbox Jr) I was surprised of the KoT's overdrive sound's transparency. The sound is comparable to a tubescreamer (808) that is cured of all the nasal (ngo-ngo) mid hump sound on a really good day. Both sides that is.. So I began thinking it was all worth it. The fact that I have two of these amazing sounding pedals in one box, it was worth it.
More babble:
Inside, we find two more knobs and dip switches for more tonal options. There's a trim pot for each channel for that extra treble control for fine tuning the amount of highs you like especially for dark sounding amps. The dip switches allow you to set each side to a clean boost or a normal overdrive or a distortion. So yeah.. I had the red channel set to normal overdrive then the yellow on clean boost. Interaction between the volume and drive knobs is very audible too. It loves to be set on high volumes (past 1 o'clock). The drive saturates well, but not to the extremes. I can always hear the notes from the lower 3 strings on a hard strum.
I am not that good of a guitarist to tell you guys what pedal is best for readers, but I know a good sounding pedal when I hear one, and this is one of them good ones.
There's a phrase silk-screened under the pedal that says "WE DO PEDALS RIGHT", I'd have to agree on that.
I see a hefty number of Analogman pedals (sadly some in the ads, i don't know why) on gear pictures here in GC so if you can, please share your experiences with them. After the KoT, I would like to explore other Analogman stuff like their bi-chorus and the sunface silicon fuzz!
Share some stuff too whether they be good or bad (rumors) like the KoT being just two Marshall Bluesbreakers (some say tubescreamers) in a box or the Analogman Chorus being useless lol.
Let us discuss!!! Newbies and metulz posts are welcome!!! (although i can't say you'll be treated well after senseless posts)
