What is your audio interface? DAW? How many tracks you plan to record simultaneously?

I have old Sony laptop P4 1.7 GHz RAM 512, DAW AA2.0 I can record 4 track at the same time without problem using Helixboard 12 Firewire, latency at 3ms.
Let your ears teach your fingers.

They say that laptops that used Sonoma cores were best for audio use. I've read of 1.8 Ghz machines that were run head-to-head with 3 Ghz P4 desktops.
Sonar 4.04PE/5.2PE/7.02PE/8.31 PE, Project 5 v2.5.1, EmulatorX 1.5, Cubase SL2, Ableton Live 7.14,  Intel Q6600 MSI P43 Neo 4Gb Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2-800, Emu 1820m, Yamaha DSP Factory, Terratec DMX 6fire

peace to you balta:

i think di OT but not also for sound recording

shopping also for a notebook for my erpats...and sa mga bago(sony dell hp)...he liked the new mac book pro (core 2 duo)..masmura ang unang labas nila e...ang kulet nga e...knowing mac pa...compared to the other brands...visit www.ynzal.com para sa bagong mac core 2 duo ready...panis pa ang powermac center.ang bagal.

these are his specs...

core 2 duo 2.33 ghz
**intel 945x chipset
120gb
2gb kingston
256mb ati radeon ddr3
with necessary usb connections and firewire(ata)
all other specs not impt sa audio rec...

**reading in other threads here in the forum and also sa research...i think stable ang 945x daw for DAW based on praise reviews of users talaga....pero itong 965x(only for the desktop palang; poor for investment coz of bad reviews)na bago medyo hindi daw maganda for audio engineering...kaya ambilis lumabas nung 975x e...fortunately, 945x palang talaga ang bago nilalabas na board para sa notebooks with brands... hp, dell, mac and sony(ata)..kaya medyo ok sa investment...

Macbook 13" (not Pro, not black) = $1k+

Hnglabo.

I wouldn't call the iMac portable. Typically, portables and laptops are more expensive than desktops, even if they have the same specs. This holds true even for windows machines. It has something to do with the battery, power management and "mobile" spec processors which consume less power. Desktops don't have such restrictions on power. If there's a downside to the Mac, it's in available and affordable getting software. Even going from Tiger to Panther is a paid update/upgrade! While you can run windows apps on an MacIntel, the Rosetta app will slow it down. Better to get a windows laptop if you intend to run windows applications.

Uhhh... that's kinda the reason I gave. Attach a UPS, keyboard and mouse to an iMac and it's practically a portable... with a 15 min battery life.

Yup the iMac's a desktop computer. A Macbook will allow you to mix on a plane . :)
