radioDredd: Brutal Death on Friday!
« on: December 15, 2006, 05:02:04 PM »
Hehehe! Kami naman mag-susurvey.

Dec 15, 2006
After much debate and violence, the tasteful people of Radiodredd have finally
laid down their weapons and agreed on a list of fresh new artists that we
think are the ones to watch out for next year! This week's playlist incudes
foreign and local acts that released their debut EP/album only this year, if
at all!

Listen to music from Gnarls Barkley, Ang Bandang Shirley, Earth vs. Zombies,
Whitest Boy Alive, Roxymorrons, Land of Talk, Ladyfuzz, Maps of Norway, and
many others!

If these names are alien to you, you must be from another planet! If you
haven't heard them yet, tune in this Friday, or risk being called uncool (by
us)!

IS DJ SKUL IS MESOCEPHALIC OR NOT!?

Would you let people armed with their CDs, mp3 players and cassettes raid your studio and play their favorite 15-song playlist?

A pop station is doing that, letting celebrities take over the radio and play their favorite songs. I'm thinking about doing the same thing, though without the celebrity/rockstar requirement.

I'd like to volunteer to be the first person to have my favorite playlist aired live.  :-D

Actually we did that last Friday when Narda took over. But it will be a problem if we do it too regularly because we are arrogant bastards and we think we have better taste than anyone else.

I'd like to hear local rock guys listen to and discuss the influence of jazzers like Jaco Pastorious and Miles and Coltrane and the like on their playing as a sort of "think out of the box" episode.  I'm pretty sure you'll get people like Parokya's Buwi Meneses talk endlessly about Jaco - because he cuts across all genres. You can get Karl Roy to talk about Coltrane too.

i like that Cebu based funk band, Mano Mano

... as for ppl talking... i think choosing someone from the underground, or from philmusic (perf de castro, comes to mind) talk about music is a lot better than listening to mainstream artists pretending to be intelligent.

i go for Buwi though... despite being mainstream, i think he is a cool guy.

let  me rephrase: avoid mainstream vocalists, at all cost...

Jingle bells, jingle bells...

Teechur Spet, who'll be Rudolf). @#%$&*%!!!

Hark! It's radioDredd's Christmas special this Friday!

Behold unique Christmas music from artists like Ben Folds, DCFC, Sufjan
Stevens, Arcade Fire, White Stripes, Aimee Mann plus our own local bands!

HAVE A DREDDFUL HOLIDAY SEASON!

New Year's resolutions
« Reply #13 on: December 28, 2006, 07:09:09 PM »
New Year's resolutions:
1. I will chain myself to my radio every Friday night at 9.
2. I will text praises to radioDredd DJ's so their delicate egos will fatten.
(text: "numsg" then space then your wonderful message "you don't suck!" and
send to 29107)
3. I will have better taste in music.

2006 is about to end and radioDredd celebrates it with a BLAST! The other
week's 'Best debuts' episode just wasn't enough! Due to insistent public
demand from our 12 listeners (based on the highly innacurate Sonicus Rating
system), tune in and listen to MORE of our favorite tracks of the year!

Destroy your ears with music from Beck, Hot Chip, TV on the Radio, and our
very own Radioactive Sago Project, Prank Sinatra and Moon Fear Moon! PLAY IT
LOUD! Happy New Year!

Am not arrogant, just too much of the been there, done that thing.  We do need to get bit less stuffy.  Lets bring in the audience in.  There's a suggestion earlier in this thread albeit with a few caveats so as to not stray too far off from the theme of the show.  The bloody holidays are over thank god.  Lets kick some serious culu.
Would you let people armed with their CDs, mp3 players and cassettes raid your studio and play their favorite 15-song playlist?

guest artists bring their old cassette tapes pre cued to their favorite songs, play them once then smash them with a hammer on the air never to be played again

-1 to the artists talking about their "esoteric" influences too much possibility of wankery and pretentiousness
In an expanding universe, time is on the side of the outcast. Those who once inhabited the suburbs of human contempt find that without changing their address they eventually live in the metropolis

Problema yan since walang cassette player ang NU! We actually had Robin Rivera as our guest and he had an actual cassette recording of his band's gig from 20 years back. Sayang we couldn't play it.

anyway, I don't wanna smash yet my only copy of Mutiny.

predictions for 2007
« Reply #18 on: January 04, 2007, 07:39:50 PM »
In the year 2007...

1. Prof Sonicus will lose his Prozac prescription and goes nuclear on air. No one notices.
2. The Beadle will get busted one by one by each of the members of his 4AG band, including the new session guitarist that's a dude. He continues managing them anyway.
3. Prof. Ramone will shave his head after injuring Joyce Jimenez with his afro during '07 Rock Awards (yes, we will get invited again).
4. radioDredd will continue playing music that kicks ass and expands your horizons (except for that one episode when everyone but DJ Skul is absent and he decides to play his Hall and Oates collection)
5. The Dean will continue to be the purveyor of style and good taste (especially since he's writing this).

We are all as reliable in our predictions as I am in guessing the next episode's song listing. What the hell... expect music (I think) from Beck, Mates of State, Cansei de ser Sexy and our very own Radioactive Sago Project, Prank Sinatra, Gasulina and Moon Fear Moon.

Based on our SGV-Mananghaya audit of the results of your overwhelming response to our survey, the top 2 types of music the typical radioDredd listener wants to hear are "Classics from the Club Dredd era" and "New Music".

This week we will feature an act that can be considered for both categories.
We were tripping on these guys then, and we're still tripping on them now. On top of that, they have a new album! They never get old, they never go quietly.

So this Friday, crank up your radios and trip on the SONIC YOUTH!!!

But that's got nothing to do with a good time!"

No, we don't have anything hi-tech yet. That's why you have to chain yourself to your radio!!!

Re mash-ups: Rob actually let me listen to Destiny's Child/Fugazi. That was a riot! I will consider it and try to get the support of those goddam music snobs, Erwin and Ramone. You know they actually staged a coup last Fri and renamed the show "The Ermone Hour"!!! (and just when i was kinda getting used to "Academy of Hate"). This Fri we have Andy and Cabring of Datu's as guests. Maybe they'll sit on "Ermone".    abangan...
