Acoustic Setup on Pre-Amp and Amplifiers for gigs
« on: August 19, 2015, 09:24:31 AM »
Ano pong mga setup nyo when it comes to gigs? Puro kasi ako home recording at di pa nakaranas ng gig setups for acoustic (mostly puro jazz setup kami ng band) kaya I'd like to hear some suggestions. Salamat po, I use a Dreadnought guitar. Thanks po.  :-D :-D

usual setup:
acoustic pickups (Fishman) >>> Acoustic Amplifier (Ibanez TA35 Troubadour Acoustic Amp; use as stage monitor) >>> DI to House

Ideal:

Acoustic Pickups (LRBAGGS or K&K) >>> Acoustic Preamp (K&K) >>> Acoustic Amp (AER) >>> DI to House

imho, importante ang may acoustic amp para may monitors ka incase na walang monitors ang venue.
hahaha ako binibiyak ko muna yung wetpaks para makita kung may yellow thingy hahahaha

Puede kang magplug sa keyboard amp or sa PA using a DI box.

Guitar with K&K Ultra Pure Western Mini ---> POD HD500 ---> PA

The POD is unnecessary, but I like how I have a lot of tone-shaping options under my feet in case I need them rather than just have a DI Box (which I also have if I really don't need the POD).

GUITAR [usually with undersaddle piezo pup or under-bridge installed piezo disc tranducers such as the K&K mini (3-piece) or classic (4-piece)
>> (OUT TO) a piezo impedance matched preamp which may be in the form of an onboard (side-installed or a output jack >> LINE OUT or DI BOX.

LINE OUT (using Canon/PL connector) is to a combo amp such as the AER Compact 60 (carried by JB Music in recent years) SWR California Blonde, SWR Strawberry Blonde, Fender Acoustasonic, Trace Elliot (once carried by Yupangco then), Fishman Loudbox (no local dealer). NOTE: combo amps may have Line Outs and/or XLR outs as well.

DI Box (using XLR 'balance' lines/cables) to mixing console.

EQs (graphic or parametric) is preferably after the preamp (before the amp or console) >> EFX processor to amp or console.

My set up is usually as follows:

Guitar <with AER AKplus - uses piezo undersaddle and condenser mic with blending control) to another preamp <either Presonus Tube or Raven Labs Blender> to amp or to console.

another variation is -
Guitar <with piezo under bridge transducers) plus external AKG 416 Condenser pointed between 12th fret & sound hole> blended on Raven Labs PMB OUT to combo amp via LINE OUT or OUT to DI box to console.

If money is no object, you have a lot more equipment options such as rje Bose L series, Fender Passport (which is very reasonably priced as a PA system), DTAR Solstice or Mama Bear preamps (also very reasonably priced considering their quality).

Though I find it so amusing when I perform and don't plug my acoustic. mas #feels

haha

Importante sa acoustic ang magandang pickup. If your guitar sounds like a mic'd acoustic then you have a good pickup.

My usual setup goes like:
Guitar -> DI Box -> House PA (with Stage Monitors)

My guitar is a cheapo Crafter, but resonates well. Then, I bought and installed an Elliot Lemi pickup with a 1/8" mono jack end and plugged that pickup to the stock pre-amp. Nothing fancy, although I wish I had better gear. (Don't we all?)
