hmmmnnn very hard question... I can only say.. I was there in the BNW and Katrina's in 83-84 as a pre-teen nerdy/skinny kid who by accident discovered Pinoy Punk... very few and TALENTED PUNK BANDS emerged and shaped the TRUE UNDERGROUND PINOY MUSIC SCENE... if not with them PUNK Bands, there will be no E-heads, No YANO/PAN/dongabay, no METAL Scene, No "Alternative" bands of the 90s..etc etc etc and so on...

if JDLC, Maria Cafra, and the elders were the BORING 70s... COLLEGE/UrbanBandits, JERKS, BETRAYED, WUDS, ETC ARE THE VOICES of the UNDERGROUND 80s..

every kid living in Manila's streets was pissed and fed-up with the SEX DRUGS RakEnRoll+very boring guitar "ad-libbers" of the 70s. The Early punks decided to TAKE THESE DRUGGIES BY THEIR ASSES AND GIVE DEM VERY HARD KICK IN THE BOLS AND adopted the no-future-no-holds-barred-do-it-yourself culture that is taking the west by storm and lunched a local version in-your-face answer to the mainstream (whatever it is) and proudly say "T***nyong lahat!!"

Back then, no bands has the GUTS to write, perform, record, produce and distribute their own music except for these PUNK BANDS... I really wonder nowadays, why these so called new rockers ay may producer na, may internet pa, may budget pa, at may murang pagawaan ng CDR...wala paring wenta...? diba..?? KUNG WALA RIN NAMANG talent...bakit pa kayo nariyan...? you're just a waste of time money and effort and musical airspace... we have no access to internet way back, but we researched and made an effort to know why there was this so called punk culture. Aralin nyo naman ang gusto nyo...

Punk - Petty Criminal.. yes. .check your google.. kung wala kang deksyunari..
Punk - rebel; one that is not conformed to the traditional ek ek..

look around... you see a bunch of high skul kids wearing the same clothes, green spiked hair, bondage pants, boots or chucks,  arm bands, chains, studs, just like another skul uniform.. pare pareho.. then you go back to my definition # 2... so where's the odd man..? wala... so no punk there definitely... just a bunch of posers...

punk to me? i could not really define it exactly.. i just know it.. that I am one... i am what you do not expect to be..

WHAT WILL BE PINOY PUNK..?
duhhh??? go out.. explore your world... look around, take a bath... visit your nearest botica at bumili ng kendi... i do not know what will be pinoy punk.. as long as there's a single human being that is being exploited, oppressed and being fed with BS, and do something to express themselves AND CHANGE his destiny, to me.. that one guy IS A PUNK. i know many bands in the early 90s who wrote their own material, got signed, played gigs, released albums all without being directly inluenced by pinoy punk, i myself am embarassed to admit i knew nothing about the pinoy punk scene when i started playing in bands...ibang mundo para sa amin yun ng mga barkada ko...i cant even recall any band who got signed then who was punk in any way, by any definition...i have a lot of respect for those who came before us and their contribution to the pinoy rock scene, but they were not an influence on me at all

and that's my opinion

fair enough...i dont know all the bands you mentioned personally but the ones i have had the privelage to meet all have a healthy respect for the ones who came before them...iba naman dito sa pinas e, hindi naman nagka kampo kampo ang mga musikero na punks vs. metalheads, gaya ng sa ibang bansa...sa mga ignoranteng audiences siguro pero sa mga musikerong  kakilala ko walang ganun...

dito ako medyo sumablay...sa sariling sikap/dyi recording at distribution medyo mahina talaga nung times na yun compared to the earlier punk bands, o.t.h. uso din kasi ang major label signing nun e, so madaming recording, maraming gigs at maraming original songs...i like to think ang actual roots ng current band boom is really in the early 90s mayrics/red rocks/dredd scene at hindi sa earlier punk scene...not to detract from their accomplishments, pero sa tingin ko mas influential ang 90s
