You'd be surpirsed kung gano karaming musicians (hindi lang sa UP), ang magagaling, but at the same time hindi well-versed sa formal music theory. But if theory floats your boat, don't worry, there are musicians from both MC and UG you can share ideas/knowledge with. Madami ako kilala from both orgs, I'm sure you'll find them far from "mababaw".

AFAIK wala pang music major na sumali sa MC and you'll be surprised kapag nakita mo kung anong klaseng tao mga member ng MC ngayon hehe.

sorry for the term "mababaw". that's not what i really meant to say. my point is, members of a "music" organization should have musical knowledge.however, that's just my opinion. i'm not saying that the UP Music Circle should take take that direction. that's just my ideal vision of a music organization.

Bro I know a lot of musicians who don't need intensive knowledge of music theory but can still kick ass when they play. And I doubt that MC is shallow in terms of musicality and music talent, never was and never will.

i never said that MC is shallow in terms of musicality. in fact, one of my colleagues is acquainted with a few members of MC. i heard that they play well and i'm happy that iskolars don't only just excel in academics, but in music as well.


i apologize for saying that they're "mababaw".
like i said earlier, music theory is a very valuable factor for a music organization. i hope that that'll clear things up a bit. i never meant to offend you guys.

i haven't watched him play yet, but i've listened to a few tracks off his soundclick page before. i was impressed.

Thanks bro  Sana madami mga gigs and events around the campus this year, para magkita-kita naman madalas ang mga musikero ng UP. 

Anyway, sige usapang theory kuno, once in a while I head over to the College of Music library to check out some books, lotsa good stuff there... hiniram ko dati yung "Zen Guitar", it's not a theory book per se pero it's an excellent read nonetheless.  Sa CAL library din there are a bunch of cool music books, yung iba non-western pa.

i was just lurking when i read this. i don't know if you're only referring to guitar players, but we have a music major back in the "early days", a drummer. hehe...

btw chief the present ExeCom is planning a huge 10th year anniversary celebration na may pseudo alumni homecoming na rin siguro since ikakasal na si Jedd, any "help" from all MC alumni would be appreciated daw haha.

agree ako! ako rin umaasa lang sa internet para matuto ng theory kahit unti, but im pretty sure i can play well. tsaka yung term na "mababaw" ni sir paul, no offense meant naman yun kung babasahing maigi. peace tayong lahat
