haha @ topic

My dad used to play manhattan transfer in the car when i was still a little kid. When i got to my adolescent years (yep. still a kid  :-D), i accidentally saw birdland by the weather report (a song covered by manhattan transfer wherein they added lyrics to it) and somehow got hooked. It actually reminded me of my toddler years. From there started my thirst for searching new jazz music haha

my parents are really into jazz since i was a kid. that started from there. may mga na discover ako na iba later on. pero okay rin naman yung mga ibang jazz compositions ni eric johnson, pero cliffs of dover pa rin favorite ko sa kanya.

i started listening to jazz when my mom introduced me to manhattan transfer, birdland ang una ko narining na kanta sa kanila. My mom was so engrossed with the soul groups back then, Stylistics , the supremes, and the like, on my 8th birthday she gave me a George Benson LP for my initial jazz immersions. nag widen ang scope ko with Jazz when i met psychic sushi, Boss Jim, Deacon_blues and jazhombie. Although im still immersed into the rnb theme, the jazz genre is my way of escaping from the real world.

As of the moment im listening to Tal farlow, Jody Mitchell, frank gambale, Wayne Krantz, Greg Howe band, Chick Corea Electric band, Earl klugh and Fourplay. The melodicism of jazz has grown quite infectiously if I may say so. i'm now immersing myself to the music of John McLaughlin and paco de lucia.

I have to admit mas malaki ang impact ng Cassiopeia  sa listening aspect. The Live version of galactic Funk gives me the chills, lalo na nung nakita ko na ung gitarista ang gumagawa ng synth lines....dats y Im still drooling to get my own synth for the guitar, which hopefully i'll get  by the end of 2007.  Hoping to learn more form you guys. Im expecting new material from kawayan strat on the next Hazy nights.

Jason musta na pre?

Uma-umaga, dad ko used to play Jazz music very very loudly sa house while he's taking a bath, getting ready for work. Tapos I started playing the guitar, and learned a few ballad and alternative tunes (yung "acoustic" scene kumbaga haha). Tapos as my musicality grew, I started to notice the tunes na pinapatugtog sa bahay. Ayun. Hooked. Si Diana Krall yun, tapos Anthony Wilson yung guitarista - Sayang, napanood ko sila live before I can fully appreciate their music.

Pero napakinggan ko talaga that made me play Jazz was Tuck Andress. Man in the Mirror sa isang compilation album ng tatay ko. Tapos yun, from there naghanap na ako ng ibang tunes, until straight jazz/swing/bebop na pinapakinggan ko - parang Joe Pass or Wes, pero pinakinggan ko lang sila noon kasi influences daw ni Tuck hehe, until sila na yung gusto ko talaga at hindi na masyado kay Tuck.  :-D

Jazz made my life miserable!!! huhu It blew my head off... Well ganun talaga ang buhay, I started listening to Chick Corea's Spain and ayun dun na nagsimula, from Miles Davis to local scenes wdouji, then jumped to Benson, tas tuloy tuloy na... I love jazz and I'm still loving it!!! hehehe Peace out!
Just let your music fill the empty spaces in you. It's all you have so take advantage of it. It's a gift!

Then, I met a some funny looking bald guy (joke!)

From the head down to the tail and then a hard climb upwards...

I think I was reading an article about John Petrucci, sighting his influences which included almost all Al's and Steve's (Holdsworth, Di Meola, SRV, Morse, etc.). From that point on I've been trying to reach down to his influences (wanting to understand how he came about). Al Di Meola, Chick Corea, Miles, and it gets crazier, and then realizing that much of them are residing in the jazz region or often within it. And then looking past behind my own influences, seeking their roots, they have jazz in them as well.

Wanting to enrich my own playing, I turned to it(starting). Jazz is an ever growing tree to pick from and let it grow in me or let my self grow within it, I'll find out which one in time  :-)
