I'm totally digging Janek Gwizdala, he's an awesome bassist and composer. I discovered him by way of Tim Miller, who is an freaking monster of a modern jazz / fusion player, of the Holdsworthian / Eric Johnson - school mixed with his own thing. Jojo Mayer is a freak too! I find my ears sometimes zooming in on his drumming alot, damn what groove-meister.

The Tim Miller Trio x2 album is a sonic trip, I'm enamored by his blending and superimposition of acoustic and electric (sometimes overdriven!) tones.

Thanks for the Jazz Gods and the internet, now listening thru youtube and other sources. Want to buy a physical CD copy pero masyadong hassle kung 1 item lang. Chick Corea proves time and again that great music is indeed timeless.  :cute:

The chemistry with Frank Gambale is awesome. Though I like the classy lines and guitar tone of Al DiMeola more.

artist: Birdy
album: Birdy, 2011
song: 1901
genre: Indie folk
description: her songs are soulful; her nasal voice that was emphasized too well in the mix creates an airy feeling and I love how the way the mood of the song was presented.

1901

Oh man, I think I stubled upon the ALBUM OF THE YEAR for me while on vacation!

Akira Jimbo Smile Smile

It's just such a well produced album, every tune is hummable and catchy and all of the musicians are killer! It rarely gets any better than this in the area of modern jazz / fusion.

Catchy instrumentals: check!
Killer drummer and grooves: Akira Jimbo, check!
Solid bass: Abe Laboriel, check!
Great keys: Otmaro Ruiz, check!

and out of this world guitar playing by Allen Hinds and Carl Verheyen! They trade solos too on one track, it's eargasmic stuff  :-P

In fact, I dig Allen Hinds' work on Jimbo's albums more than his own solo efforts. He pushes the envelope more on this one. The guy just doesn't play a bad note! And he lets loose here as well, which is something he seldom does as his playing is usually layed back, tempered with the right amount of fire in the right places.

Was great driving music, I was smiling all throughout  :-D

Next to this gem, the sound track to my recent Subic adventure was these two albums:

This is Tommy when he was still playing alot of electric. It's all amazing music, accessible fusion with great guitar playing and many classic moments. I recall listening to these albums alot when i was starting out with guitar, Tommy is a household name down under and these albums were pretty big at the time.

Seeing him and his brother Phil live is a jawdropping experience.

How are you finding Dark Matter?

Do you think Big Sky was more emotional and atmospheric?

I like both albums but feel the lattter should be a classic   :)

Had a cassette tape of this. Scott Henderson, in his younger days. Got an album copy from a blogsite.

.. and wait until you see the chord changes in the whole song.   :-P

I've been trying to play this on solo piano, getting close, after a few months.  :-D
