questions for pro musicians here;-)
« on: August 07, 2007, 09:58:02 PM »
hi mga maestros,
what can you advise to those aspiring pro musicians out there? in my case i didn't start learning music until i was already 19 and i just started playing jazz roughly 3 years ago. I know i'm not one of those really talented guys out there but i'm really determined to be a pro musician, right now all i do is about music, playing with other musicians, listening a lot, non-stop practicing, concerts etc. are there something else i should be doing to get somewhere?
thanks,william

Hey man, we're on the same bandwagon!  :-) But you're much luckier than me coz you have other musicians to jam with.
Ano nga ba pwede kong gawin....mag saturate ng mag saturate....tapos mangarap na lang..

Everyone knows something about the what. Most know a bit about the how. Some know about the who's. A few know about the when.

But one thing almost no one talks about is the why.

I believe that there is only one why worth pursuing.

And that is: Share the gift, share the love.

There are those who do it for money. I understand that. Livelihood is important.

Some do it for fame, adulation, notoriety, glamour... to make themselves feel special, important, like Da Bomb.

I don't understand that. It's strange and foolhardy.

All we are is vessels.

Conduits for The Holy Spirit.

God's synapses.

The essence of business is making a profit. The essence of music is sharing the bounty.

Share the gift, share the love.

To God be all honor and glory.

most of the time doing it for money takes out the fun in playing. i must warn you that because i've seen that happen a lot of times.

it becomes work.

i'm glad i'm gigging for the fun of it. sharing with people the spark you feel everytime you pick up your instrument, making them feel the words of the songs you sing as if it were their own.

going pro may mean differently to different people, i know. but let's see to it that we don't veer to much from the essence of sharing music- touching souls.
strum away!

revelation 101:
Playing jazz is about being yourself and expressing what your emotions using your instrument no matter what your technical level are. Jazz music is never a competition, it's more of a self discovery rather than achieving something. Dis-cover, this means finding out what's already there. So to all those artists out there enjoy your journey!

revelation 102:
When you play, don't think about the notes (you only do that in your practice session) play from the heart and surely your listener will consciously or subconsciously hear your message. Communicate to your audience, that's where the essence of this art starts. 8-)

the why.....ang lalim nito aya ha......

to add to it lang.....

before coming to the states, i was earning a decent living as a musician. mostly sa nightly gigs and guitar lessons ang income ko. paminsan minsan nakapag togs sa sikat na banda....nakapag record pero d na release ang album...pero oks lang.

my bands were:skin, blue rats, first circle, introvoys and sunburn.

i played gigs for r.santiago,j.gibbs,o.alcasid,r.velasquez....managed to play on bubble gang as a regular guitar player during their joke time skit.

session kung kani-kanino....

maswerte ako kahit d ako super talented na gitarista.

e napunta ako sa tate.........serious adjustment kasi dito mahirap makapasok sa music industry....i gotta get a real job.

ayon, naging caregiver...receptionist sa hotel, repairman ng shock absorber ng kotse, waiter, bartender, salesman/stockroom boy sa hip hop store.....and this was all in the span of 2 yrs lang.

kakahiya, pero kay simple ng ibang trabaho dyan....pero everytime i get into a new job, in the back of my mind i always say " i should be out, playing guitar ".

d pa tapos ang laban.....i'm getting a new job, this time as a music teacher in redondo beach......by next year i plan to audition for bands who play in casinos and hotels in las vegas....

d pa tapos ang laban.....just dont forget the why.

why am i musician? if i had to explain, you will never-ever understand.

guitarist telling the drummer what the intro to laklak was. caught on video.at binilangan pa ang drummer 1-2...1-2-3..lol
