If they were tyring to copy the Paul Gilbert Ibanez:

1) Mali ang shape ng reverse Ibanez Headstock
2) Horns are too long
3) Bridge pickup is not properly aligned, polepieces do not align with strings
4) Neck pocket  plate is not centered properly
5) Shark tooth inlay is not proportionately correct kung Ibanez kinokopya
6) Neck looks too thin

Since this thread is about PICS, I would just like to comment:

on the Tele-
1) Parang from the pics mahaba ang lower horn
2) Parang hindi symmetrical ang body ng tele sa likod
3) Sana ginawa na lang metal knurled ang knobs
4) Sobrang kapal ng chrome treatment ng bridge
5) Tele bridge pickups are not suppose to be covered with a chrome pickup cover
6) Parang sobrang laki and possible na maling angle ang string tree
7) Tulips or petals on the inlay are too big

1) Panget ang burst -- too red parang mertayolate/or acetone and dating
2) Panget ang pickup covers na gamit
3) Bakit walang string tree given the headstock angle kung Ibanez nga ang kopya?  I am not sure that it will sound tight enough
4) Kung Ibanez 7 string Head Stock na Reverse, mali pa rin ang shape.

this used to be an rj ventures strat, but mang max really gave it a whole new look with this natural finish mahogany body.


ganda nung figure ng mahogany, parang relic na hindi.


looks great at the back too.  you can see the body's made from just two blocks.


this is a satin-finish na polyurethane.  it feels very "woody", parang walang finish, pero makinis siya.



sound quality has improved over the old "palochina blocks of wood" body, with more sustain and a more open tone.  it's not as light as the old rj body, but it's not as heavy as you'd think considering it's mahogany.  overall, solid value for money!

Since this thread is about PICS, I would like to comment:

1) Parang mali ang proportion ng mga Horns compared to a real strat, either upper horn is too long or cut away too dip.  Lower horn seems a bit deep... Hard to say.
2) Side Body Contour looks too shallow.

1) Sobrang taba or lapad ng upper bout kung talagang Les Paul copy
2) Kung long tenon copy talaga iyan dapat hangang middle point lang ng neck pickup and there is suppose to be some space and a smiling face/tongue
3) Parang kulang ng carve ang archtop
4) Weird ang taper ng neck into the body, parang too shallow because it looks abruptly cut.  I perceive it to be kulang sa thickness ang Les Paul Body kung talagang kopya ito.

1) Tele seems to be neck heavy.  Parang out of proportion.  Mukhang mas maliit ang katawan.
2) Flying V has too thick pickup rings and panget and pickup cover.
3) I am also not sure of the break angle after the TOM, parang too shallow.
4) Ang roundness taper ng shark inlay parang kulang ng curve.
5) Black finish looks cheap.

Hey man, as far as I've read and in my opinion, whatever arguement that's gone on here is related naman to the topic of Max's work. The first "ugly" arguement was in relation to your claims regarding Mang Max's craftsmanship and the second "ugly" arguement was in relation to Mang Max's pricing scheme versus that of other luthiers.

They may be "ugly" but they are valid.

+1.  To be fair, his price is a winner in terms of value for a custom guitar BUT I do NOT really think he delivers on the higher quality level of the more expensive luthiers.  I will get to assess one later in the day but judging from the pictures mukhang malayo sa mga talagang top of the line.

As for me, kay Mang Max ako nagpapagawa kasi shoot sa budget ko as a salary man. Satisfied naman ako sa gawa nya. My primary consideration is price. Does this make me any less of a guitarist than the (proverbial) next guy who puts quality first? uhmmm, maybe... Pero like i said, satisfied na ako sa gawa nya. to my ears "quality" na sya. So ok na ako dun. Im happy. Hirap kasi sa happiness, subjective siya kaya nagkakagulo tayo dito. madaming nagkakabanggaan, no one wants to give in. Funny thing is, halos lahat naman may punto, so when and where does it end? Respetuhan na lang siguro tayo para medyo harmonious naman ang Guitar Central ng bahagya,hehehe. Peace.

@humbucker: ako yung naabutan niyo ng dad mo nung pumunta kayo kina mang max. pinagusapan namin ni mang max ang design mo. tuwang tuwa sya,hehehe. Up sa dad mo for being a cool and supportive parent. In my day,my dad used to chase me out of the house whenever i played,hehehe. 

Cool naman ang sabi mo.  Siguro ang punto lang ng iba dito na hindi maka RUFO is when you get your next salary increase or a raised budget,  you should try other luthiers with better quality.  Baka lang you will be more satisfied...  PEACE.

as for me, im getting a guitar made by him. its my money, my idea and at my own risk, and my own loss/benefit. if i end up with an amazing guitar, leave me be. if i end up with a good guitar, leave me be. if i end up with a bad guitar, leave me be. its that simple.

come on guys. for those on a budget like me or something, wag naman mag sourgrape (tama ba ang term?) sa mga nakaka afford mag pagawa sa ibang luthier, or nakakabili ng mas mahal na gear. in the first place, ikaw ang gumastos e. if in the end mag sasourgrape ka lang, sana nag ipon ka na lang ng onti para sa mas mahal na pagawaan diba? sa mga may kayang mag pagawa sa iba, well, i cant really speak for everybody but frankly speaking, this is the only chance im going to get, budget wise, so quit poking the guys caged in a budget with a stick or something because its getting really annoying.

as for the tsk tsk thing. well it was a bit impolite to say that. but then again, he might have meant something else by it. like i said before, wag sanang mag sourgrape if some guys come along and say that "bla bla bla is not good enough  for bla bla bla".

Kung ganoon huwag na lang kayo mag post ng pics for people to comment.  As I said before run a paid AD sa isang magazine or newspaper parang walang comment at hindi ma hurt feelings niyo.  Lets face it, the original threadstarter was using this forum to promote Max Rufo's work.  Fine but he started using unjustified claims and when the pictures started coming in parang hindi pala ganoon ka quality craftsmanship as originally claimed.  Bakit kayo naiinis at na hurt ko hindi kami maka RAVE kasama niyo?  Pati nga mga gamit rin namin binabatikos.  Kayo ba dapat exempted dahil mas maliit ang budget niyo? As I said, the best way to assess ang pinakamagandang gawa ni Mang Max is to give him a P150,000 budget.  Since kayo ang malaki ang paniwala sa kanya, kayo ang magcommission ang gumawa siya ng masterpiece.

GENERALLY YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR QUALITY.  IT MIGHT NOT BE PROPORTIONAL RELATIVE TO A CHEAPER GUITAR IN TERMS OF PRICE BUT THE REALLY REALLY HIGH END THAT PERFORMS WHIPS THE REALLY LOW END.

I see smacks of Censorship driven by pagka PIKON.  Look I understand your feelings but you guys already had a relatively good and peaceful 50 pages of promotion and then suddenly you feel bad if there are NOT so favorable comments beyond page 50?  Again none of you had answered my original question "If quality craftsmanship need not be expensive, bakit hindi kayo bumili sa Santa Mesa ng electric guitar?"

dagdag ko na rin, nagkita kami ni deadlifted last night by coincidence and i was able to try his guitar. sarap gamitin, hindi ganun kabigat as i've expected. concerning sa pagkakagawa, pulido talaga yung pagkakatrabaho, tiningnan ko ng mabuti yung construction. walang exaggeration to mga friends, pero blown away talaga ako sa pagkakagawa, warm sounding din yung tunog, solb na solb talaga. thanks to sir deadlifted for letting me try his guitar. sa mga gustong kumontra, tanong o opinion na gustong sabihin sa akin, pm nyo na nalang ako.

I have great guitars and honestly have not seen a local luthiers work that im happy with.. pero E***** lang nakita ko so I cant say much. Im excited to see more of Max's stuff out there.

kasi sir siguro gusto nila ng custom guitar, yung mura ang price, and nagustuhan nila yung gawa ni mang max kaya ayun, ganun  hehe..
