then what would you call the rosewood mentioned in the website bro?  indian rosewood perhaps?

buti malapit lang yung warehouse!  not in a far-flung province!   :-D

rosewoods are members of the dalbergia genus.  so its scientific name should start with "dalbergia"
like dalbergia latifolia - indian rosewood
dalbergia nigra - brazilian rosewood
dalbergia retusa - cocobolo

and so on

but this looks promising.  looking at the grain orientation from the scrap redballz17 has posted, the stuff can be used for back and sides.  it barely passes but hey, pwede na!

my dad has basic hand tools like hand drill, grinder, router, and circular saw. I'll try to post some pics of his works if time permits.  :-)

I believe the warehouse in pasig has a complete line up of tools, like band saw, table saw, belt sander, etc...

This is a very interesting development! :-)

Make sure you include me when you'll be finalizing details. This just might be the push I need to get started in building guitars. My days as a lurker at MLP and TDPRI may be over. Hahaha! :-)

Let's sked this so that allthose who are interested can come along in ortigas.

But beware, it may end up as a disappointment.  I've been to these wood hunts and most of the time the stuff is not up to par.  Be hopeful, but don't get your hopes up too much

But the thrill is in the hunt :-D

That's okay. I'll be there for the learning experience, anyway. If I simply wanted to build a solidbody, I can always save up and purchase a decent wood blank online.

But it seems more exciting this way. Hahaha! ;-)

I'm hoping at least I get some wood suitable for necks.  Even if it's flat sawn I could make 3 or 5 piece
laminate necks.  Or maybe a few 2 or 3 piece solid body blanks.

Who knows?

very curious.  the "philippine" rosewood looks lighter than indian rosewood or cocobolo.  maybe not really a rosewood.  pau ferro?  wishful thinking.  :-D

birch!  i would want some birch but for a non-guitar related item.  cajon.  :-D

I don't see why not. As long as there's a workable truss rod, go for it!

Thanks for the pics. :-)

It's not pau ferro.  It's something else.  It's scientific name is on their website.  I Forget what tho

The "Philippine rosewood" looks good. I think it can be used for fretboards.  In fact if you can slice it from it's thin side it can be 2 side sets, and just find a matching back set.  Sana may malaking bandsaw

I'm afraid that the maple's curved grain cannot be used as a neck.  Or at least I won't.

I'm really interested in their plantation mahogany

BirCh can be used for necks, as long as the grain runs from end to end straight

Cute kid by the way :-)

If you have some time to spare, there's lots of old wood and furnitures in dimasalang manila. Its like a junkshop from old ruins. And if your very lucky you might see slabs of wood that came from the renovated train station. I wonder how would it sounds if turned into a guitar? old wood + can absorb vibrations that came from the train = chug chug tones

i find the grains a bit weird..maybe just not my taste, especially with those circular things (don't know what they're called but i see them in furniture).  looks like a 4-piece body at the least.  i prefer either 1 or 2-piece bodies.
