nakita ko kasi ito

http://www.stuartxchange.org/Kalantas.html

kalantas is red cedar?  hmmmmm...if so then it will have different tonal characteristics than mahogany since cedar is known to produce warm-sounding tones.

my squier strat is made from red cedar as well.   :-D

narinig ko kasi before na ang kalantas is like higher-end mahogany.

i'm willing to wait for the perfect ash to make a 1-piece tele body bro.  i'm not in for the additional expense of shipping wood from the US.   :-D

How much is the maple?  Need itnfor back and sides.

Red cedar is different.  I don't think that kalantas is a cedar, much less red cedar.  I have red cedar planks and theynare nowhere like kalantas.

we'll see.

i read somewhere that a banjo maker made his rims with really old maple that was once flooring for about 200 years.  he thinks that all the stepping and the pounding made the grains tighter.

i know its crazy...but i'll try anyway

there's a very thin line between crazy and genius.  it's up to their customers to determine which side of the line their luthier is.

kalantas (Toona calantas) is the "true" Philippine mahogany. It is under the Meliaceae,  the so called  Mahogany family.
Looking for second hand but still in good condition books:

To think there's two kinds of lauan, white and red. Tangile can be bought from normal hardwares, I think its much softer than kalantas and lauan.

By the way I heard Gibson is now using fiji-mahogany as an alternative to african and honduras. Some claim it's the same with our red lauan.
