basta noise gates are placed after the pedals producing the unnecessary noise or hums..after the sd1 if mt2 ung maingay or if pagnagcascade ka ng dirt peds after mt2..

its better kung nakapwesto sya after ng dirt pedal since yun usually nagproproduce ng unwanted noise.mahihirapan din kase mag filter na yung noise gate kung madami nang tunog (ex. echo, delay, reverb.. etc).another purpose din na pede yung boston noisegate is gawin clean/volume boost.medyo mid bump lang unti.

my reply number 69 way way back...repost ko lang! here it is:
___

some updates!

this is for the gating function of the Boss NG-100
(obviously with your gain/drive stomps) and the
significance of its placement in your chain...

(though i think  this has been mentioned before pero repeat lang para astig!)

_______________

Setup # 1 "for the purist..."

if you have noise-free guitar, good electronics, no scratchy pots, great cable,
great gain pedals then this will suit you:

Guitar ---> distortion pedals---> Boston NG-100---> Mod or Delays...

basically the NG-100 in this setup works JUST LIKE a Volume pedal AFTER your distortion units (as opposed to Volume pedal INTO a Distortion which controls the GAIN not the VOLUME) so snap tlaga sound/noise as in, no bleed in high gain settings...

note: this is really i think how a sound engineer would put a Noise Gate in the signal chain...

__________________

Setup # 2 "Alternative Noise Gating for the extremez!"

for players who are in to the extreme drive settings, and guitars with
noisy pickups and whatnots...try this setup...

Guitar---> Boston NG-100---> your distortion pedals---> Mod/Delays...

yup first in! mismo! just after ur guitar!

in this setup the NG-100 works as if it's your VOLUME Control ON YOUR Guitar. (though more faster than your pinky hehehe...automatic that is!)

note: notice when a Guitar into a HIGH GAIN Cranked AMP  and turning your Volume pot to ZERO eh there would still be what i call a "BLEED", it sounds like a pink noise or something, not noticeable naman for live playing which is yun ang panalo! same with the NG-100 ung setup na to...

i reccomend this SETUP#2 for most players, ung catch lang is ung slight bleed pero i guarantee you guys, it won't be noticeable! great for start and stop riffs!
and eliminating extreme feedback sh*t!

__________

thanks guys sa mga comments sa review!!!

rock on!!!

^ mas maganda kung after nung compressor kasi pag nilagay mo before compressor, wala nang icocompress yung cs3 pag nag-close na yung gate ng ng.

yung attack, parang slow mo yung pasok ng tunog, kaya naka zero lagi sakin yung knob na attack, yung sens naman, yung sensitivity, naka max naman sakin tong knob na to, kasi pag di naka todo parang minsan pag strike mo ng strings parang hindi agad tumutunog,

just a guess: im thinking the Sensitivity knob is used to match the output level of the incoming signal. parang kisame sa kwarto: pag masyadong mababa yung kisame, hindi lalampas kagad yung signal na papasok naman sa gate functions ng pedal; pag sobrang taas naman, lusot nang lusot. basically this is the signal Detection part of the noise gate.

the attack knob tells the pedal how soon it "clamps" after it detects the signal.

the decay knob simply sets how fast it releases the gated signal. :-)

Tnx to all the posts and comments!!!

I updated the first post para makita agad ung two setup types in using the Boston NG100!

For starters and users of setup2 for heavy gains try these settings:

Level: unity gain is at 9oclock

Attack and Decay: Zero

Sens: anywhere, lower values results in stronger gating, Meaning sa zero its super gates everthing, i recommend set it at 12oclock then experiment from there...=)
____

Again for the tone purists, this is not a pedal youd want or use, but for those of you who wants to experiment with noise gating and stuff or if your rig's noisy and want to tame down or cut the hums and open sa pros and cons of a pedal then you definitely have to try it!

Rock!

medyo sobrang lumang thread na to pero ngayon kolang kasi natry ang boston noisegate, I traded my behringer noise reducer to minimize loops in my board, it turned out na mas ok nga pala talaga ang boston ng, aside sa straight link lang sa board (ayaw ko bg may send/return function) nakuha nya un gusto kong noise reduction.

@ nineworkz
salamat dito sa turo mo gamit ko un 2nd setup.

guitar>boston ng>digitech df7>behringer ts808>joyo UD>joyo octave fuzz>EQ =success!!!! more power to you nineworkz!
