For sure. In fact, we're doing a charity gig this coming Sunday for an event called "Super Cities Walk for MS" organized by the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada here in Ottawa. It's just going to be me and our female singer, (guitar and vocals) and we're just doing a 45 minute set.
I've never really looked at doing gigs as a source of income. I play music primarily for the fun of it. A couple of years back I was in band (played with them for 7 years) that only played charity gigs and private parties. We never got paid. But that was what that band was all about, it was about having a good time. The best part of it all was that I was able to play in venues that I never thought I'd ever get a chance to play in and be able to play in front of thousands of people.
Like I said, I don't play music for money, but I have my own limits. I hate being taken advantage of. Here's a scenario: We play in a bar, they pay as dirt cheap. It was okay because we thought, well its a small bar and didnt think there would be lots of people. Thing was the bar was packed (our crowd), they were also charging people a lot for drinks and stuff. So after the evening they paid us and wanted us to play there again for the same amount of money. Well, we told them they have to pay us more but they wouldn't. So we said "screw you". I mean I can understand some places can only pay so much but for places that surely make money, it's not fair to the band not to pay them accordingly.
