Pedro Aznar - Roar of the Southern Clouds (damn, can't insert the pic, right click disabled at work!)
Metheny stated that Aznar plays bass like Jaco, ang guitar like... erm... Metheny! The album is Spanish, but catchy, with a modern twist. First time I heard and dug Hispanic techno-acid jazz with great bass soloing :-D
Oz Noy- Oz Live Personnel: Oz Noy (guitar); James Genus, Reggie Washington, Will Lee (bass guitar); Anton Fig, Keith Carlock (drums).
I've been digging Oz alot, scary and musical, great grooves  man, he's like SRV meets Scofield, and wonderful harmonic vocabulary, new ideas... and the playing is totally raw, unlike other fusioneers. Fresh stuff. And his use of effects serves the musical purpose.

i've got two of his albums, yeah, close to henderson, but with more notes! shades of jeff beck in some places too, and most of the stuff smells close to wayne krantz. not just because keith carlock is in the roster, but the soloing style is close. but i hate to admit, oz has plenty of range vs wk..

Had these albums on Vinyl years ago - great to hear them again in digital format: Where Have I Known You Before No Mystery The Romantic Warrior Three Quartets My Spanish Heart Light As A Feather The Mad Hatter The Leprechaun Return to Forever Live (originally a 4-LP set) Light Years Tap Step Friends
And finally heard the classic 60's Corea albums - never could find these anywhere before: Tones for Joan's Bones Now He Sings, Now He Sobs Circle - The Paris Concerts (with avant-gardist Anthony Braxton on sax)
Chick rulez.

Triangulo - Michel Camilo
Michel Camilo - piano Anthony Jackson - bass Horacio El Negro Hernrndez - drums
great interplay between the three musicians! Rhythms tend to be complex at times but everything remains very interesting. Great use of the electric bass by Anthony Jackson on a supposed to be traditional "acoustic jazz" setup. A good listen especially at night before you sleep, IMO

been listening to this for the past 2 days... semi classical with dose of new age from the man himself... not too old to rock and roll and never to die "Ian Anderson"..
can anyone list artists who sound like her? same style, ganun ganun :-D
In my opinion, Diana Krall - pero I like Nina Simone better. Although Anthony Wilson is playing in some of Diana's song - very good lines, sometimes funny too. :)

ang layo ni nina simone kay diana krall, hehehehe....the reason being nina simone was eclectic, singing everything from r & b, jazz, rock, pop, folk & spiritual songs....in that vein, she shares more of a musical kinship kay aretha franklin...also, when she sang jazz pieces, nina simone drifted towards duke ellington territory

Talaga? I've never listened to all her songs yet - all I have is this one album (which I don't know the title, sa dad ko kasi yung CD) that I put in the CD player of my dad's car kapag sumasabay ako sa kanya - pero that CD really sounded like Diana Krall. Actually may nagsabi rin lang sakin dati na makinig kay Nina Simone - parang pareho lang daw kay Diana Krall. Eh magaling sa music yun eh. Naniwala naman ako. :-D

Frank himself takes a moment during the track to tell the audience what time signatures various instrumentalists are using. He says Drummer A is playing in 7/8, Drummer B, Tambourine player & Bassist are all playing in 3/4 and the Organ player is playing in 5/8 - all at the same time. and alto sax blowing his nose! haha!
If Igor Stravinsky, Eric Dolphy, The Platters, Spike Jones, and Jimi Hendrix had ever gotten drunk together and decided to record an album, this is probably close to what would have come out.

1. Kind of Blue- Miles Davis. Most music crititcs consider this as the best jazz album of all time. Being a timesless album, and unlike Sgt. Pepper's (which some described as dated), some would even consider this as the best album of all. The Allman Brothers Band acknolwedged "Kind of Blue" to have influenced its music; hence, the band infused jazz into rock as exemplified in its "At Fillmore East" album. Exceptional tracks: So What, All Blues and Flamenco Sketches.
2. Sunday at the Village Vanguard/ Waltz for Debbie- Bill Evans Trio. Before the album/s could be released, the trio's bassist met an accident. When asked about the same, Bill Evans could not say anything. If I am not mistaken, the sets were recorded in two sessions.
3. Blue Train- John Coltrane. It was very rare that John Coltrane would record for Blue Note. So when he was given the chance to do so, he brought with him some of the best jazz musicians of his time (outside of his former band, Miles Davis Quintet).
4. Cookin'- Miles Davis Quintet. A jazz critic once wrote that he'd include "Cookin" in his top 5 jazz albums of all time. This album exemplifies why the miles davis quintet was the most influential jazz combo of its time.

Its a toss up between a couple of stuff depending on my mood:
Sleepy, wanting to wake up and seeking upliftment in the morning: Larry Carlton- Renegade Gentlemen. Freaking amazing arrangements, almost in a Bruce Hornsby way. Larry plays like a teenager here with something to prove, and the tone is fantastic. (No Dumble in sight! Its Bogner-land!) Sunrise mandatory for that added effect. No jazz to be found, its country-rock with LC's special blend.
Wanting to relax: Larry Carlton - On Solid Ground. Makes me feel classy :-P Night music. You can virtually smell the 80's in the air.
But when I'm really stressed out: Howling Iguanas (Self titled). For a change of flavor, angry modern blues from a highly underrated Michael Lee Firkins in a band with vocals setting. Scary mofo.
When I want to space out: Scott Amendola Band- "Believe". Nels Cline has caught my ears, never boring, from ambient to jazzy, he delivers.
When I REALLY want to space out: Dave Fiucynski's Kif Express. Fresh. 'nuff said.

McCoy Tyner - Guitars
Nice stuff, I heart McCoy, gonna collect all of his stuff. Just learnt that there was more to him than just the Coltrane Quartet. Oh, nice line up on this album - Scofield, Trucks, Ribot, Bela Fleck and Bill Frisell

That's definitely nice stuff, Anton. All the tracks are amazing but my personal fave is Mr PC; Scofield is really smokin' in that one. Another favorite of mine is Contemplation (Frisell just never runs out of ideas)

Heavily digesting Frisell. Delicious. Like a perfectly made moist dark chocolate cake, not too fudgy, with the right blend of air, bitterness and sweetness.

Insightful observation, Charlie Parker of the guitar. Probably Tal Farlow, a straight bebop player, is the other.

For now, i'm just listening thru youtube. Next time na bibili ako ng mga items abroad i'm gonna include this CD album in the list.
EXCELLENT! The way jazz was performed coming from that period cannot be replicated--the golden age of jazz as they say. My favorite bebop guitarists Tal Farlow, Joe Pass and Wes Montgomery are from that period. The quality of their recordings may sound dated and "inferior" to today's best of digital and analog format YET the overall feel and breath of their works define what is BEBOP.

^ That is so true. Even with the numerous jazz and bebop artist around today, well, I listen thru them via iTunes jazz radio station, no one, and I mean no one ever get so close to sound as expressive and with the same level of soul like the way the masters does it in the 50-60s.

I'm totally digging Janek Gwizdala, he's an awesome bassist and composer. I discovered him by way of Tim Miller, who is an freaking monster of a modern jazz / fusion player, of the Holdsworthian / Eric Johnson - school mixed with his own thing. Jojo Mayer is a freak too! I find my ears sometimes zooming in on his drumming alot, damn what groove-meister.
The Tim Miller Trio x2 album is a sonic trip, I'm enamored by his blending and superimposition of acoustic and electric (sometimes overdriven!) tones.

artist: Birdy album: Birdy, 2011 song: 1901 genre: Indie folk description: her songs are soulful; her nasal voice that was emphasized too well in the mix creates an airy feeling and I love how the way the mood of the song was presented.

Oh man, I think I stubled upon the ALBUM OF THE YEAR for me while on vacation!
It's just such a well produced album, every tune is hummable and catchy and all of the musicians are killer! It rarely gets any better than this in the area of modern jazz / fusion.
Catchy instrumentals: check! Killer drummer and grooves: Akira Jimbo, check! Solid bass: Abe Laboriel, check! Great keys: Otmaro Ruiz, check!
and out of this world guitar playing by Allen Hinds and Carl Verheyen! They trade solos too on one track, it's eargasmic stuff :-P
In fact, I dig Allen Hinds' work on Jimbo's albums more than his own solo efforts. He pushes the envelope more on this one. The guy just doesn't play a bad note! And he lets loose here as well, which is something he seldom does as his playing is usually layed back, tempered with the right amount of fire in the right places.
Was great driving music, I was smiling all throughout :-D
Next to this gem, the sound track to my recent Subic adventure was these two albums:
This is Tommy when he was still playing alot of electric. It's all amazing music, accessible fusion with great guitar playing and many classic moments. I recall listening to these albums alot when i was starting out with guitar, Tommy is a household name down under and these albums were pretty big at the time.
Seeing him and his brother Phil live is a jawdropping experience.

Dream Theater's self-titled album. (Still on the fence about it, I'm still stuck in that place where i think "Images and Words" and "Awake" are masterpieces because of their depth and range.)
David Grissom - "Way Down Deep" and "Loud Music".--- Now this is good rootsy stuff, with tone for days!
Steve Morse- "Coast to Coast" and "Stand Up". --- Pretty neat!
Charlie Parker and Chet Baker Live at the Trade Winds (1952)---- Brilliant. Amazing. Lovely contrast between Parker's trailblazing lines and Chet's more introspective approach.

Currently listening to stuff from T.R.A.M., which is Tosin Abasi's old band/side project. You'd expect some more prog metal stuff from him, but not with this band. T.R.A.M. seems to be more jazz fusion-oriented with some prog influences. Really liking their stuff so far!
