I officially declare Zoom as the king of cheese
« on: April 03, 2008, 03:48:53 PM »
I've given up.  These things really worsen the signal chain.  You have a glorious sound coming from your guitar directly to your amp, and once you start putting any Zoom product between the guitar and amp, the signal degrades so badly, that you can start hearing 10111111010101010101001 10111111010101010101001 1111111010101010101001 101111110101010101111101 quality in your signal.  Mics cannot lie.  Presence and organic-ness is lost instantly.

I have yet to see Zoom come up with something like a TC Electronics product.

Personally I find the delay of zoom products (I used to have a 1010, then 2020, and lastly a 707) above average. Its not the greatest digital delay in the market... but it doesn't suck!

Just my humble opinion.

I used Zoom for 8 years (505 and GFX-4). The GFX-4 was very fun to use and I got some good tones out of it. Pero kung papakinggan ko na ngayon, di na as good yung maririnig ko. Hehehe :)

Years back, I used to own entry level Zooms 1010, 2020, and other supposed improved models. Since I was a struggling musician then, I really didnt have enough options. But when I got enough dough to buy numerous Boss pedals and other boutique effects, I promised myself not to buy a Zoom again. Until the new G7 and G9 arrived...

They are okay. I still mix them up with other stomp boxes but basically they perform what I need to have in live settings. Bars in the Philippines have so little space to accommodate a bedspace filled of effect pedals so I really do not need to go rockstar and bring them all...  :-)

Hi sir, I've heard about the G7s and G9s but I haven't had the time to test them. Are they really that big an improvement compared to the previous GFX series? In what ways/fields have they improved?

compared to other multi effects prices in the market, ZOOM products are much cheaper!
parang budget meal yung zoom  :-D

i used to own a
Zoom 4040 = Panalo! My 1st Multi effect, traded for an AX1500G kase mas matapang yung tunog ng dist ng korg
505II = got this after i dispose all of my gears kase di na uso yung banda  :-D
G2.1U = my 1st aqcuisition here at Philmusic (tnx zasam!), I hate the dirt sound!, pero panalo yung mga modulations nya. 1 week lang sakin.

maselan lang yung tenga mo dodgie  :-D, pero for an average musician like me... panalo pa rin yung mga Zoom Products!

di naman siguro, cguro may ilang factors din..

tweaking, amp, player..

i watched a small gig lang dito sa amin, forgot the band name, i noticed wow good tone buong buo,.. tpos when i get a little closer nakanamp**a naka G9 pala..

pero may ilan rin ako narinig na guitarist na naka G9 pero sheeeeet yung tunog..

Steve Vai uses a Zoom. Yes, he's got a very processed sound, but still pretty good.

Some people swear by their G9's. And I've heard my bro's G7, and it's pretty decent for high gain stuff, and I'm sure I can get good tones from it if I can tweak it.

I heard a Francis Magalona song where Perf was playing the guitar ganda nang sound parang Steve Vai yung sound. Nung nag YM kami ni Perf sabi niya he was using a GFX-8 at that time.

I agree, skunky.

When recording my guitar I always take the zoom pedal out of the chain. My zoom G2 is really just my live/rehearsal "swiss knife".

The zoom takes away some sizzle and roundness from your tone.
