Siguro sa mga bata underrated si David Gilmour pero for guitar players over 40 isa to sa mga icons ng tone. Maybe even greater than Clapton (certainly not as commercial as Slow hand).

I was watching an episode of Classic Albums on VH1 Classic last night. The episode focused on the production of Def Leppard's Hysteria. I remembered the brilliant guitar parts that Steve Clark and Phil Collen played for that album. Phil even demonstrated a lot of the album's guitar parts. I'm now in love with his guitar tone.

cris oliva was nothing more than an EVH clone up until hall of the mountain king when savatage turned to progressive-oriented heavy metal. suddenly he became a heavy metal Slash, with epic solos oozing of melody and emotion. dont like his tone though. albums to listen to are streets:a rock opera and edge of thorns. songs to listen to are somewhere in time, believeand all that i bleed.
after cris oliva's unfortunate death, fortunately he was replaced by another great guitarist, al pitrelli. listen to the albums dead winter dead and wake of magellan, with the songs this is the time(killer), this isnt what we meant and morning sun.

oo nga! ever wondered kung bakit may gitarang nakapangalan sa kanya? siya (or isa sya) sa pioneer designers ng electric guitar pickup. may kinalaman din sya sa development ng multi track recording at analog echo machine. parang guitarist/inventor. nakomang pa sya sa isang car accident kaya nakapermanenteng position yung kanang kamay nya para maggitara. man... that guy was in a death metal band before (possesed) ... and for a death metal guy to not hog the sonic space and still come out with a signature style... its freaking awesome! i dont hear anyone mentioning him as an influence... he is wayyy underated.

'THE WARMTH' & SICK SAD LITTLE WORLD are good examples! -when he shifts to playing jazz, crystal clear! SUMMER ROMANCE(anti-gravity) & DEEP INSIDE explains that clearly! shredding? u will tell Joe Satriani & Steve Vai to allow Mike to join the next G3! listen to trouble in 421! :evil:

BILLY HOWERDEL of A PERFECT CIRCLE is another! :-o i love the way he compose songs! -it can be really catchy (like 3LIBRAS) yet still has that heavy part! -his solos are very melodic! be it long or short solo. BRENA & ORESTES has great ones!

ooops sorry my bad no excuse this time except that i was typing in a hurry, yes it was inang laya with becky demetillo-abraham, they both used to run this NGO in Q.C. called HASIK, they put up a cultural presentation in 1997 where i got to see maam Karina's fretboard skills live mala bert jansch /fairport convention yng dating way, speaking of which, ok din daw na blues guitarist si steven segal :)

I think Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead and Graham Coxon of Blur are two excellent guitarists that are rarely given their due. Their guitar playing really changes the complexion of their bands' songs. Listen to "Just" by Radiohead - wow

Dave Knudson ng Minus the Bear and formerly of Botch
His band Botch changed the landscape for modern day hardcore/metalcore. Blistering tone, claustrophobic songwriting and odd time changes that the rest followed.
Then post-Botch came Minus the Bear. This guy is genious.

+100! hehe. dati pa nga kala ko bopols to (excuse sa term) kasi nung nagconcert yung rivermaya kasama parokya ni edgar, barbie's cradle, moonstar 88.. (chippy event to sa folk arts theater) puro strumming lang ginagawa, tapos parang ang dali dali lang talaga nung ginagawa nya.. e medyo may thing sa akin pag 5 kayo tapos kaya nyo naman maging apat (parang cueshe?) dagdag pa yung medyo childish din ako magisip.. naiirita pa ako sa kanya nun. tapos napansin ko lang siya nung naging part siya ng barbie's cradle. hindi kasi ako masyado aware sa mga gigs nya before barbie's cradle at up to now e kaya di ko pa talaga sya nakikita face to face mag-gitara. di ko inaasahan na isa pala sya sa magiging favorite guitarists ko. pati yung shredder kong kaibigan idol yun e. e isa ring mamaw yun. haha! :lol: nakasalubong ko pa sa cubao to, papuntang salonga sa rustans. hindi mukhang gitarista e pero may tindig ng blues hehe :lol:

His album "Jazz Metal" was one of the BEST fusion albums I have EVER heard. It's in heavy rotation in my listening selection. Great tone and technique. And his column "Creative Rock" is a GIANT help for me! I buy guitar techniques just for his and Guthrie's columns!

Compared sa recognition na nakuha ni Page, Plant and Bonham he is underrated. He is one of the most underrated musician in my opinion and yes he plays guitar(if you didn't know) and bass, keyboards, banjo, mandolin and a whole lot more.
I guess nakasanayan na nya since session musician sila ni Page when they started. Musicians who dont get much credit for their work. The reality of some musicians. Sad. :-(

IMO, Daniel Johns of Silverchair. Saw the DVD "Live from faraway stables" (my gf has this). Added degree of difficulty since he's singing at the same time.

i know many peeps would say that Levon's got better chops than Kelly... maybe bcoz Levon can do Vai, PG, Petrucci chops ( & so does everybody else who shreds :-D )...
but Kelly is a seasoned veteran. He can play all the gtr solos of Stelly Dan tunes ( some 3 decades back, the band was called Paztilan, before they became side A ). Kelly also does Joe Pass, Danny Gatton, Mike Stern, John Scofield, John Abercrombie, Larry Coryell , Al di Meola, Larry Carlton, Lukather, Robben Ford & Django licks... but one of his favorites is John McLaughlin.
We were Mahavishnu freaks long before these shredders started worshiping Yngwie :-D

para sa akin - Dave Navarro!!! RHCP's One Hot Minute was a good album
another one - Vini Reilly of The Durutti Column!!! If in the earlier albums of the RHCP, they were aiming for the Hendrix sound...sa Californication era, eto kinokopya Frusciante---yung minimalist lines/structures ni Vini Reilly

Mas Underrated ata si Dean DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots. Di pa yata siya nabanggit sa thread na to. Even his bro, Robert DeLeo is very good. Listen to old STP songs like "And So I Know" and "Hello, It's Late" aside from the other big hits that they have made. Eversince, his sound and skills has been the backbone of STP's music but he's not that much regarded as a guitar great.

not necessarily my influences, but i consider them underrated: 1. brian setzer -- he can let rip rockabilly riffs and solos. i liken him to a modern-day chuck berry. great stage presence wit the big band and all. 2. prince -- as many have said, his questionable image simply overshadows his brilliance... not only with guitar, but the multiple instuments. 3. lenny kravitz -- because he can riff while singing, just like hetfield. and that the riff of "are you gonna go my way" is right up there with sweet child of mine in terms of recall 4. tuck andres -- because i am always awed by fingerstyle players who can do rhythm, melody, and bass simultaneously. 5. stanley jordan -- melodic tapping. hindi lang basta speed exercise. 6. whomever janet jackson's guitarist was on the song "black cat". great riff and solo 7. conan o'brien (yes the comedian) -- yes, he can play. he has live comedy acts that feature him singing and playing.

Norman Brown. I am not knowledgeable sa names ng Jazz players, but I enjoyed listening to this guy some years back. But I never read or heard his name in discussions(or I am just always in the wrong place maybe).

I dunno but it seems only the "learned" jazz and blues fans out there appreciate this guy....He does not get the same accolade of an Eric Clapton or a Jeff Beck and other mainstream guitarists out there...

Believe it or not, Ford is just as celebrated as Eric and Jeff. The only thing that separates 'em is the fact that both Clapton and Beck have already gone mainstream, while, Robben has not.

yeah maybe that's the reason...but really this guy knows music and compared to Clapton's work, Ford's guitar technique requires more deeper understanding from the listener cause you won't get it the first time...
