Re: Hi Hat Shuffle and one hand 16 notes...

Edi hindi pala pwede gamitin yung moeller technique pang 16ths? kasi tatlong strokes yung napproduce nya bali triplets ba yun? So pano dapat ang technique pag 16ths sa one hand?

Do the second stroke (tap) twice.  So that would be 4 notes: 1-2-3-4 = downstroke-tap-tap-up... Repeat the cycle to play straight-ahead 16th note groove.

The examples shown by Tony Royster Jr. and Steve Smith are exercises, and also in a way an aid in order for us to understand the motion and mechanics of the Moeller stroke.  It's up to us kung pano na rin natin idi-diskarte and iwo-work out sa playing natin.

Ah ganun pala! Thank you very much sir Dio.!

+1

the stroke can also be used for pull out accents, 2 strokes, etc. ung triplet pattern lang ay para maemphasize ung 3 motions happening.
yeah gets ko na :-D Salamat ng marami!

Drum Roll Please
« Reply #54 on: June 14, 2012, 12:42:37 PM »
Okay.. First off, I am ashamed to admit and I feel stupid to post this.. Pero hanggang ngayon di pa rin ako makontento sa drumroll ko (Buzz Roll, Press Roll, Open Roll.. whatever you call it..)

I've been playing the drums for many years and can do (some) advanced stuff pero hanggang ngayon di pa rin ako kontento sa tunog ng Drum roll ko... Pakiramdam ko hindi malinis..

For the benefit of everyone specially the newer players..

any significant advice on sustaining a clean sounding buzz roll?

first of all tol, dalawang klase ang roll. open at close

open roll is yung double stroke, every hit would be two notes (RRLLRRLLRRLL) so etong roll na ito yung dapat mong unahin aralin mas madali mo makukuha ang closed roll pag nakuha mo na itong open roll.. at ang open roll ay nasa bilang bawat hit compared to a closed roll na pwede mo mejo laruin pero kelangan mo mafeel pa din yung metro. for practice i suggeest like this. (R L R L RRLLRRLL) so kung marunong na magnotes e the 1st 4 notes would be quarter notes then the doubles would be eight notes. kung di naman.. the 1st 4 sticking there would be your pulse then the double there would double the feel of your pulse..ayt? speed is not a factor here.. kelangan pantay ang tunog.. ok? pwede mo din gawin tong universal na exercise pampantay ng stick heights (RLRLRLRLRRLLRRLL) kelangan isang tunog lang siya so start slow and as zero six said practice with a metronome. so when doing this slow use your wrist then as your progress e mararamadaman mo na lang tumutulong na fingers mo in helping the doubles to bounce rather than doing two motions. so practice daily for 5 minutes na TAMA rather than practice 3 hours na MALI(hindi ako galit ha? i just want to emphasize this, hehe) if you have a friend who knows this stuff e better pacheck mo din kasi mas maganda na may critique ka. if you do this right e after a month e you have decent sounding doubles

as for the second roll, the closed roll..
it's executed somewhat the same for the open for pero your crushing the bounce of the stroke with the use of your thumb and index finger. You put some pressure in the stick while executing the stroke(sometimes with the middle finger) so start slow be looking at each stroke at tignan mo yun bounce kung madami at mabilis lang yung gap niya in between strokes try to that alternating pag nakuha mo na yung feel so how do you get the feel experiment the tightness of the pressure you exert in with your fingers .. tpos start at the very edge of the snare at dun mo iexecute yung buzz then gradually go the middle.tapos kung hangang san pino yung stroke mo dun ka magstart hangang sa huli e nagagawa mo na ng pantay yung buzz na isang tunog at walang hinihikang brrbrrbbbrr.. hehe? practice lang yang. mas maganda sa snare mo gawin yan.. mahirap pag pad.. pero pag nakuha mo na yung feel e pwede na sa pad.

so how do you know when your correct in doing your doubles and buzz roll? pag nagagawa mo na siya ng PANTAY AT MABILIS ng mahina tapos unting lalakas vice versa.. i means you have the control of this two important rudiments.
so patience lang yan. i learned to execute decent doubles in almost two months, closed roll e talagang kinarir ko ng dalawang linggo dahil kelangan ko talaga matutunan.. hehe.. good luck!

so pag nakuha mo na yung control pwede mo na siya mapasok sa mga patterns mo ng walang kahirap hirap.. cheers!

harugrugrug.. tnx bro.. yup Ive practiced that pattern na parang  (1 2 3 4 12341234 1 2 3 4 12341234) ganun yung counting ko before.. I think you get it... :-D  Pero di ako masyado nagfocus dun.. well, isasama ko na nga ulit sa routine.. hehe... at oo nga.. natigil din kasi ako sa practice ko sa diddles, 16th note at 130BPM.. started at 60 I think then na stop ako dun pero di ko pa ulit na follow up after 130.. may ibang patterns rin kasing inaral.. pero oo, thanks sa pattern mo..  Pa practicin ko na ulit..

thanks for the info about the closed roll.. I gues that's what I'm asking about.. ang sarap lang kasi ng tunog nun.. parang oo, basic siya pero malalaman mo pa rin kung pro na ung drummer sa tunog ng buzz roll niya..

so pre, manual muna bago matic?? :)

pinaka mababa na double stroke na pantay ang taas (1 inch lang dapat)
at pantay na volume. pag na-perfect mo na yan, saka ka tumira ng iba. :)

tip saken ni roy mercado (drummer ng ASAP).
