Hmm depends on how you look at it

Jazz dominantly use 7th chord voicings. Punk rock uses fifths (power chords)
Jazz songs shift scales. Punk rock sticks to one.
Jazz songs have odd time signatures (some of them at least) Punk rock dominantly use a 4/4 time signature
Jazz songs syncopate. Punk rock usually sticks to the beat.

In my opinion they are two contrasting genres. But who is to say that it is impossible to mix? (And i'm not sure if there are people who label their songs under this category as of now either) I just dont have the knowhow how to mix these two.

But i guess you could put a jazzy sounding solo on a punk rock song. but in my opinion, doing that doesnt really transform the song to punk rock jazz

look for james chance and the contortions, they only made one album (the original line-up anyway, comprised mostly of free jazz musicians), yan ang hanap mo

if you're looking for the grit and aggresion of punk sa jazz, look no further than ornette coleman, albert ayler, john coltrane, sun ra, james ulmer......yan ang mga tatay ng punk, hehehehe

na excite lang ako sa thread na ito kasi naalala ko uli yun james chance and the contortions, grabe yun! i remember before may mga kalat nyan locally na bootleg tapes, and the best way to hear them is yun live recordings nila! para syang coked-up james brown, spiked with ornette coleman lines, pure aggression ng punk....yun mga latter records nila veered more towards jazz funk na (but still no less intimidating), but to hear them at their most scathing, look for their 70's, early 80's recordings....the original line-up made only one album "buy", grabe sa tight yun band, papahiyain nila most funk bands sa bagsakan...and this band ang pinapanood nila mick jagger, iggy pop and other music legends......anyway, to answer the initial question, yes it's possible, and someone did it during the 70's.....andami naman ganyan type ng playing....if you listen nga kena albert ayler, they were doing it na way before the advent of punk

hehe yep somehow i got the sense of how these guys got their "punkiness" in their jazz.. come to think of it.. i do remember jaco releasing an album titled punk jazz..

Though from how i understood the title (dont know if that is what is really meant) is the fusion of punk rock (the likes of the ramones) with jazz

i remember this quote saying that "we put labels in music so we could get a grasp on it, where in reality, music is music", it cannot be categorized, we are limited only by our imagination....before, my taste in music was narrow, territorial even, but when i realized the truth in that maxim, it became easier for me to appreciate everything, not only music....one time i was listening to a collection of traditional folk songs, it was just playing sa background, when this piece hit me, meron syang pop reggae groove na di mo maintindihan, i was floored when i read the liner notes, the piece was from the year 1250! amazing isn't it?....and if you listen to polka, you can say that polka is a slower version of punk or punk is a faster version of polka  :-D
