a friend of mine shifted from rock to jazz... and the sad part is tinatawanan nya mga showbands and mga tumutugtog ng rock... sayang at magaling pa naman sana...

maturity for me i guess is being humble enough to not brag and just play music, kahit mapa rock or jazz...

Ok ang mga mabait, humble at magaling.... kesa naman sa magaling pero mayabang...

Its like eating same dish everyday you get tired of it then you wanted a different dish.

yeah but eating another type of dish doesn't really make you more mature..

it's a different thing if they're referring it to eating ice cream and then switching to italian food, coffee and beer..

but rock isn't really like ice cream right?

in my oponion kasi, jazz is a very complicated  na genre, because of sa timing, chord-voicing, rhythm, scales, etc. well sa chords palang napakalalim na eh...and when you know jazz very well..you are good technically. For me jazz is an another level of music to study.

This is a common misconception lalo na sa mga musicians na namayagpag nung 90s. To them, rockers are amateurs and the only way to be a pro musician is to be a jazz fusion enthusiast. Funny is that the guys who believed in this adage are not even well versed in jazz. Yung mga nagsasabi nito mga ALIAS din sa jazz.

It is true that it is the most demanding musical genre aside from classical but it doesn't mean that you are a mature musician if you become an exclusive jazz player. Tell that to Vai, Clapton, May, Satriani, Petrucci, Albert Lee, Brent Mason and they will simply laugh at you.

I don't mind playing "So What", "Giant Steps", "Take Five" and I will have a great time doing it. But nothing knocks my socks off than plugging my guitar to a Marshall or VOX AC-30 cranked to 10 and hit an A5! When that sounds rages the room, I feel like I'm the richest guy on the planet.

"mature ka daw pag nagshift ka from rock to jazz.. "

i don't think being mature is the word...for me, "flexible" is how i would describe it, not only from rock to jazz, but to and from other genres as well...

mature ka kung binabantayan mo na yung uric acid levels mo. hehehe. joke.
Back to topic: As you mature, I think you're becoming much more appreciative of music which did not strike as cool or nice when you were younger. So being more appreciative is a sign of maturity as opposed to sticking to one form of music.
