Progressive Rock Scene in the Philippines?
« on: July 19, 2006, 08:48:29 AM »
Inis sa music scene ng bansa, pero kind enough to not ranting so much. (tama ba english?)

Can we do it? Do they have a place here?

Insights naman jan, people.

Thanks...

still insane...

karamihan kasi sir ng pilipino mababaw(no offend).

I guess its not about being famous but more of a personal gratification. if you're into musical journey, then go for it, continue the quest for technical supremacy :D It would all bog down to the objective of the band. if its money-making, showband would do, wana be famous then? then go for pogi rock.If prog bands will make it to the top, then its just an added incentive. :D

world peace! :D

Thanks for the reply, sir chad... That's why I'm asking if there's a place for progressive music in pop. Yun lang.

blame the government hehehe. another reason if there aren't enough already. think of the target market. out of the 20% above the poverty level, how many among them would love prog. the 80percent are too busy working for food, maybe only 3percent of the total population would be open to it. if we were a 1st world country, we'd have more time to listen and learn music and being a professional musician alone would be enough to get by. it's like a very sophisticated taste, how can it flourish in such a depressed country. maybe with a better economy, music appreciation would flourish as well?

we have a prog scene here, di lng masyado nabibigyan ng break. We had this prog prod goin on, it was officially launched last Dec'05. it was held at 6underground.the line up includes, Fuseboxx, Eternal Now, Silent E, Minds thru Eternity & a lot more. I know there are a lot , just waitin for this thing to happen, hopefuly would be able to take it to a higher level.

Lets support the local prog scene, its not all about pogi rock or whatever we may call it. :D

I don't think that theory holds true either.  Out here in the US, you'd say that you enjoyed bands like The Flower Kings, Threshold, Enchant, or Echolyn, they'd think you took in a heavy dose of retard pills.  I think the underground appeal, similar to other genres like Death Metal or Minimalist Electronica is what attracts a devoted following out of people who enjoy this form of music.

Same with progressive music... kailangan may tumayo.. dami natin magaling na musician dito sayang naman...

i think it would be nice kung naging masa ung prog, tipong pineplay sa yes Fm ang symphony x, etc. at pinapakinggan ng mga jeepney driver. but what is it that makes songs pang-masa? melody, lyrics, catchiness, etc... i guess some bands do is they compromise, they sacrifice alittle their personal tastes to make it 'just a bit' more marketable, but not too much. but how many percent of bands really do that?

i remember before i asked a girl friend of mine who likes rock music, and i was listening to metallica cd at that time, if she liked metallica and she said, ''what, but not one of them is even slightly cute'', baka isa pang factor yun hehe. or the same girl commented when i was listening to a prog-song, ''ahh it sounds like pag nag jajamming muna ung band before they actually play a song''.. so i guess it didnt even sound like a real song to her.

what if you got manny pacquiao to sing a progsong Maybe what it just needs alittle good marketing push to get it going. something to get peoples attention.

or maybe it needs to be slowly incorporated so the non prog-listeners will be slowly used to it. baka magulat kung biglaan. mejo baka alien pakinggan.

mga sir..actually, pareho lang halos tayo sa US in terms of statistics or proportion... example..mas madami pa din  may alam at nag-aapreciate  sa US kay Shakira, Usher at sino pa Pop star kaysa mga Prog artists..ang kaibahan lang..sobra laki nila..so kahitna siguro yun 1% lang ng market nila makuha ng prog..eh ang laki na ng fan base.. ganun din sa Pinas..maliit ang percentage ng may gusto ng prog, but then, maliit din yung actual bilang ng market... yung pop, kahit saan parte ng mundo, yun talaga ang dominante..kaya nga pop eh..hehe... although totoo talaga na minsan, abuso na sa pagiging sell-out ng iba... well, siguro gawa na din na mga negosyante pa din ang nasa likod ng industriya.. it's a fact that, without money, di talaga tatakbo ito... hirap lumugar noh? hehe ... swerte ng iba na marketable ang type of music without actually compromising.. but then, i'm sure along the way merong little adjustments yun...

just a thought.. la lang magawa... peace !!! :)

Can we do it as a 2 way thingie? Like halimbawa sa songs, we can make progressive music in a vibe na makukuha nilang mga listeners yung feel ng kanta and love it, at the same time be interested sa genre na ito?

maybe we should all remember what prog is for... it was never for the masses... so i suggest all u prog dudes out there... never stop... musicians will always appreciate prog for its genius and flexibility... maybe not the masses but keep in mind that musicians will always love prog!!! those who are technical enough anyway... :D

tama ka.. nakahiligan ko rin yan kasi more on technical at grbe genius sila kasi ang galing nila mag mix nga mga instruments ng iba-iba ang tempo.. wag tayong titigil sa pagiging Prog addicts.. hehe.. do you have your own progressive compositions?.. kahit Instrumental lang.. :)
