Finished mocking up the fret board and neck. Applied stickwell and used cable ties since I had no access to clamps. Books were useful to in applying pressure on the other end. Will let this cure for 24 hours before removing the cable ties. Crossing my fingers.

After that, string it up and leave it overnight to test. Check if anything changes. :-)

It has been a real long while since an update to my DIY refret project. Got sidetracked because a notched straightedge and bevel file tool from an Greek eBay seller did not arrive. I was able to get a refund but time was wasted waiting for it.

However, I still kept busy with some minor stuff and has since made my own bevel file tool with 90 and 30 degree slots and screws to hold the file in place...

I bought a notched straightedge (24.75" and 25.5" scales) from another seller on eBay and got it more than two weeks ago.

I had also decided to remove the frets I had installed before, cleaned off glue remnants with the aid of a precision screwdriver and a magnifying lamp, and taped them up in order on a piece of bond paper.

I lightly resanded the neck to remove the initial application of tru-oil I did more than a month ago, and restarted applying a layer of tru-oil every day (scuffed with steel wool #0000 before each layer of application).

I also learned that I got a smoother and more even application of tru-oil when using my finger with very very light wiping motions along the grain of the wood. I also always check light reflections on the board for smoothness and evenness of the application.

It was the final coat tonight and I'll let it cure for the next few days, reclean the slots and press-in the frets this coming weekend.

simpleng tone cap selector lang bro. 25nf, 33nf, 47nf caps.

mas komplikado yung wiring para dun sa coil switching: off, single coil, parallel humbucking, series humbucking. sumakit ulo ko dun, walang schems sa net eh.

Oks. Nice. Similar to siopao's build. Where did u buy the latches and handles?

@Sean, para saan yung selector ng cap? Mas ok ba yun vs using tone control?
And pano nagwo work ang 4 way switch.? Parang nakaka sakit nga ng ulo haha

gusto ko lang i-try iba-ibang tone cap values hehehe. masakit sa ulo yung wiring scheme para sa coils. took me two tries, mali yung una. instead na off/single/parallel/series (arranged by volume output), yung una parallel/series/single/off. baliktad. inayos ko lang ulit. naisip ko mas maganda yung coil switching kesa stock parallel setup nung coils.

I actually just bought one of these to clean my fret wires.

For me this is way better than rolled steel wool. Kasi makalat un. Unlike this one may flat surface ka. So it's going to be leveled for the frets and won't touch the rosewood board.

I use the black one since medyo gunky yung frets ko from all the sweat and oil. and i mask off the fretboard when cleaning, para safe. :)

Balak ko bumili nito dati kung walang steel wool. Pero dahil OC ako, gusto ko kasi pati side ng frets tamaan. Para kasing cotton yung steel wool so madaling makasingit sa side ng frets. So hanggang ngayon, naghahanap pa din akong steel wool. Pag wala talaga, scotch brite na lang.

Put no pressure sa side ng frets habang hawak mo ung scoth brite. With the thickness of the yellow sponge, you will have an easy handling of the scotch brite. Nabasa ko rin na ang green pad is heaiver than a 0000 steel wool. So put no pressure. Lalo na sa side ng frets kasi tatama un sa wood

Taga-saan ka ba? Kung sakaling makabili ulit ako, bigyan nalang kita or something. Hehe

You may need to level the frets, then.

Sorry, should have been clearer. It plays now without the buzzing (before it developed the buzzing). Thanks for the tips!

Jobo's DIY Refret Project

After more than a week of curing tru-oil, it was time to re-clean the fret slots which were clogged with tru-oil...

I applied painters tape to protect the finish and I have an improved tool to clean the slots.

Masarap gamitin yung Japanese fret slot cleaning saw kaysa sa notched cutter blade. Mas pulido ang resulta ng trabaho.

Tru-oil really takes a while to cure when thick. The gunk I got off the fret slots were still gummy.

Double checking fret slot depth...

Clean slot...

'Til the next update. :)
