I remember back in high school... I hated vintage Strats for the sole reason that they had only 21 frets... And I could not play those crazy Kirk Hammet leads with bends on the 22.

So I always wanted moar frets... 24 fret guitars were my preference back then... but until I realized that the fattest tone you could get on a neck pickup is when you put the polepieces on the 2nd octave (where the 24th fret should be situated). So then I thought 22-fretters are better.

As time passed, I thought, the beauty in Strats and Teles is their simplicity. So the 21-fret necks weren't much an issue. Now I am a-ok with 21-fret guitars.

I haven't passed the 15th fret yet, so I think the number of frets really doesn't matter to me.

JS2400 for me. vintage tone with 24. gustong-gusto ko talaga ang strat, kaso ayaw sakin..

More than for shredding purposes, the number of frets also contribute to how your neck PU sounds eh
pero I never really cared about it since I rarely reach 20+ frets

22 or 24. My mindset become different when I see 22 or 24 while playing. Parang may palatandaan ako for both.

same here. I cant even remember the last time I played above the 20th fret...

22 does it for me. I used to think I needed 24 but found that I rarely play that high on the fretboard. Sa 21 naman lagi akong nabibitin.

Of course, if I can get my hands on a 24-fret Strat and Tele, then I'll still take them.

it's still down to personal tone... like me, i don't like 'too fatty' neck pick-up sound... but sometimes i do.

but the 22 fret is a great compromise.

21 fret ang Squier ko, before akala ko pang-bata kaya alanganin ako, then i realized hindi naman ako shredder, hindi din naman ako umaabot 15th fret and beyond, kaya ok na sa akin, pero gustong-gusto ko shape ng Ibanez RG321's, problem is hindi ko yata kaya pangatawanan yung 24 frets feature nya kaya inaalis ko na sya sa isip ko hehehe

I prefer 24,the two extra frets-I can't remember if I ever use it.but they're there just in case.

i've never liked the neck pickup on 24 fretters.

22 or 21 frets don't make much of a difference to me din. i'm more concerned about the rest of the neck and how it feels: must be baseball bat-ish (1 inch from 1st to 12th top fret; 10" or flatter radius; back profile chubby-er on the bass side than treble side). thats probably why i could never hang on to gibsons. could never find the back shape i like. i like the fretboard radius they use though.

I prefer 24 frets. makes me easier to visualize the scale shape because of the 2 octaves range... yeah..I'm a slow learner..

My LP has 22 and the Ibby has 24.
I tend to use the Ibby more.
So i guess i prefer the 24.
