maybe this is just all about managing your expectations.
don't expect hotel-level service in a fast food restaurant. in the end, you get what you pay for.
This pretty much sums it up.
IMO, Mang Max is a good guy. Pretty resourceful for his line of work. Maybe his methods are not the most precise. Maybe his shop facilites are not sophisticated. Even though his work quality isn't the best, he has been able to provide decent service at an affordable cost. Since I'm starting to accept guitar services myself, I've come to realize that he prices himself TOO CHEAP. How? Let me illustrate.
How much is an hour of your time?
How many hours do you spend on a refin job?
- Discussing with the customer regarding the job requirement
- Removing the hardware
- Buying the materials
- Mixing the paint
- Setting up the paint booth
- Scraping and stripping
- Finish Sanding
- Spraying several coats
- Cleaning the spray guns
- Polish sanding and buffing
- Reassembling the guitar
How much did you spend on materials?
- Sandpaper
- Polishing compounds
- Paint and thinners
What if the customer doesn't like the result--says it's too yellow? Repeat procedure. For free.
I understand the idea of providing quality service. I'm sorry to hear that your expectations shot down. You could have taken his offer to bring it to him so he can get your feedback and correct it. That way, you get to communicate your frustration to him and give him a chance to improve.
What do you think he would feel if he hears about this thread from a regular customer?
