The Birth of Steel Guitar

Portuguese sailors and Mexican cowboys introduced the Spanish guitar to the hawaiian islands around 1830. in the mid-1860's, gut strings gave way to steel strings, which native musicians preferred for their "slack key" open tunings. In 1885, an 11-year old hawaiian guitarist named Joseph Kekuku ran a railroad spike along his steel strings and fell in love with the mysterious sound. He made a steel tone bar at his school's machine shop, raised his flat-top's strings, and pioneered lap-slide technique. by the 1920's, "Hawaiian" acoustic guitar was entrenched on the mainland, often played on hollowneck instruments. By the mid-30's, most tone-bar players had migrated to resonator guitars or electric lap steels..

yep, a nice ballad under 3/4 time signature which is not very common among rock guitar players during the time of its release (correct me if i'm wrong with this). A stellar guitar work utilizing clean tone rhythm to back up the the distorted melody and guitar solo, with most of the chords featuring upper extensions such as 11th(4th) and 13th(6th)...the rest is for others to check on he he...i really love this piece from Joe Sat..its the very first instrumental i had ever dig deep into.

I like what Joe did talaga with Always w/ me, Always w/ you, and yeah mayron ngang pagkabebop jazz dun..(nice one sir Aya!)

David Bowie is said to have two different eye colors not because of hetero-chromia but because he damaged one eye during a fight.

the story goes:

"When Bowie was age fifteen, his friend George Underwood, wearing a ring on his finger, punched him in the left eye during a fight over a girl. Bowie was forced to stay out of school for eight months so that doctors could conduct operations in attempts to repair his potentially-blinded eye. Underwood and Bowie remained good friends; Underwood went on to do artwork for Bowie's earlier albums. Doctors could not fully repair the damage, leaving his pupil permanently dilated. As a result of the injury, Bowie has faulty depth perception. Bowie has stated that although he can see with his injured eye, his colour vision was mostly lost and a brownish tone is constantly present. The colour of the irises is still the same blue, but since the pupil of the injured eye is wide open, the colour of that eye is commonly mistaken to be different."

TEDDY DE VILLA DIAZ (The Dawn)

Teddy's father was the legendary Filipino actor Vic Diaz of Sampaguita Pictures fame; his grandfather was the late Pompeyo Diaz, a well known judge. He was a godchild of the "King of Philippine Movies", the late Fernando Poe, Jr.

Teddy Diaz was born on April Fools' Day, and was often teased because of this. He was the first grandchild on both sides of his family. Diaz had two brothers, Carl and Loren. Among the family members, Teddy's strongest bond was with his paternal grandfather, the late Justice Pompeyo Diaz. He inherited his grandfather's discipline and straightforwardness that would later show in his music.

Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, marks the 100th birthday of Leo Fender (1909-1991). Perhaps alone among the names of great 20th century instrument makers and innovators, his is well known even to a great many who don’t play guitar (as in fact he didn’t).

Contrary to popular belief, Steve Vai did not use his Ibanez 7-string exclusively and extensively on his monstrous solo album, Passion and Warfare, despite visually present on the album's front and back covers. He only used it a couple of times. It was on the Whitesnake album, Slip of the Tongue and its supporting tour where Vai used the 7-string exclusively.
