Good Evening Guys,

Have you tried a tune-o-matic bridge on a Mustang?

What does the sound like?

What about tuning stability?

and playability?

Thanks!  :)

I built one for Sean (Musikerochan). Mahogany body, soft maple neck, ebony fingerboard, typical medium frets, stop tailpiece and TOM. Sound? Not bad. For some reason, it had a jangly, easy to play feel. Suppose the shorter scale had something to do with that.

Pretty stable. Had to shim the neck to get a neck angle.

Hey Sean how about a comprehensive report? :-P

I think it will have a friction during trem action .

You need to shim the necks more on any of the classic Fender offsets pag gagamit ka ng TOM. Stability is great unless you abuse the trem in which case the stock bridge is fine. Check out the Cobain sig Mustang. I dont see the point tho since isa lang naman din groove ng Mustang saddles.

yep man, been busy lately building a phase 90 project for a troopie who's been egging me to build him one for ages  as for the stang, unti-unti na sya nababakatan ng braso-pawis ko kaya it's all good  pawis and libag, to be precise. love the neck profile: swabe ang octave riffs.  inaalagaan ko na lang sa fast-fret kasi hindi ko na nilalagay sa hardcase, andun sa mesa station ko lagi.

isa lang lagi criteria ko sa gitara: playability. it being equipped with a TOM bridge, tuning issues during play are very minimal, if there were any. i wanted to break the notion that the parts make a gear, hence the deliberate use of low-end hardware (TOM bridge, tuners), and daym it did (read: yun lang ang kaya ng budget ko ). tone is a subjective area, but if i were to characterize it, that'd be growly. i remember when we tested some pedals thru a friend's amp who had an Ibanez S-series equipped with DiMarz neck and bridge humbies, and strat-style middle rail. the comparison left a big fat smile on me. very resonant: damang-dama yung kahoy. strung with 10-52s i think, kaya siguro dagdag na reason kaya mataba ang tone.

the real magic happens kapag naka-sukbit na: very comfy. short scale, kaya tama sa profile ko. nagmumuka ba naman akong unano pag strat :P

Yep. It's legit. It's the earliest among three versions of the Fresher Mustang copy. First was this half-Strat half-Mustang thing with the Jazz trem. Second was a more conventional Mustang with on-off switches and Jazz trem. Third version IIRC had the dynamic vibrato na.

Paradigm Shift for me on Strap wearing... from low rider (like for the longest time)  to high roller (similar to Tom morello) for this guitar...the gibby Ill keep it low sling..

this particular jag is a bit heavy..so slinging it higher feels a bit comfy..and easier playing..and hig player feels a bit more hipsterish and geeky..nyahaha!!

pero, quite happy kasi gaano ko rough house yung bigsby..surprisinglay very stable yung tuning..its the thing I like about this particular guitar...it can stand  bigbsy use and abuse..I relly hope i could gig and waste this mofo some more..would love to see more aging and abuse lalo sa body..

Hi guys!  Been following this thread for a long time, but this is my first post here.  Just need some advice on how to upgrade the stock pots on my mij jazzmaster.  The volume significantly drops when the knob is moved from 10-8, while 7 and below drops more (or maybe too) gradually.  I'm looking for a more even/consistent increase in the volume knob from level 1-10.  Same deal with the tone knob.

I've been looking at some blogs/vids online but it seems that U.S. Pots dont fit in the MIJ cavities? Is this true?  I'm afraid to order something only to find out that i have to do additional mods on the body when I just really want the simplest "drop-in" solution.   My main concern is really the volume and tone pots... i dont really feel the need to upgrade all the electronics/wiring/switches, etc.   Pickups currently installed are SD Antiquity II for JM, so i'm also concerned that my stock pots aren't maximizing the current tone potential of the guitar.

Any feedback/suggestions would be much appreciated.  Thanks so much in advance, guys! :)

Jazzmaster cavities are HUGE so you shouldn't have any problems putting full-size pots in. The electronics in most Japanese Jags/JMs are usually cheap, so you're better off swapping them out for 1 meg CTS. Some people do use 500k pots instead though, just to tame the high end. Personally, the stock values work just fine for me. I like having that extra high-end. I guess it might not make that much of a difference tonewise if you're swapping the pots out for something with the same value. A cap change might make more sense if you want to change the tone a bit. Personally, I just think the stock electronics on Japanese offsets are on the flimsy side.
